An AW and request for book recs

As of today, I'm down 10.1 lbs.  Yay for me!

On a completely unrelated note, I need some good book recommendations.  I'm leaving for China in 3 weeks, and will need to occupy myself on the long flights.  I'm finishing up the 3rd Hunger Games book now, so that's out.

Anything at all that you could/would rec, I would greatly appreciate it!

Re: An AW and request for book recs

  • I have no book recs.  But Congratulations!!  I totally thought this was a BFP post, too.

  • I started Eat, Pray, Love on my flight to NY. I am really enjoying it.

And congrats on your weight loss. Way to go!

  • Yay for weight loss!

What kinds of books are you into? Do you want more like the Hunger Games? Or do you want smut? mystery? chick-lit? inspirational?

If looking for more like HG, go with Delirium, Divergent, Matched and it's sequel Crossed ...

    Twilight (LOL!)

A Discovery of Witches (favorite recent read)

Redeeming Love (my favorite, but it's Christian Lit/Romance)

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is Humor/Mystery

    16 read! my read shelf:
Amy's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • If you liked The Hunger Games, Divergent is similar and really good (it's part one of a three part series but the others aren't out yet).

I just read The Wolves of Mercy Falls series for the second time and I have to say I love this series. It's YA but a lot steamier than the Twilight books and the characters have the best personalities. They are Shiver, Linger and Forever.

If you want something a little more intellectual, I recently enjoyed Cutting for Stone, but it has a lot of medical lingo I'm not sure everyone would be interested in. Also, The Paris Wife was very good (it's about Ernest Hemingway's first wife and their time in Paris.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is a fave of mine, and I loved the books Trickey recommended as well.

  • Thanks for the recs so far, ladies!  For reference, pretty much anything exccept smut will do.  Don't need to be getting all horny on the flight!  ha!

And I love thrillers, but have also loved the Twilight and Hunger Games books.  Some bios are good, some chick lit.

  • Well since you ruled out smut, I can not help you. LOL!

I just sorted my goodreads shelf ...

Here are some Kindle reads that I got for $1 or less (at the time I purchased) that I gave some decent ratings too:

A Widow's Tale by Maureen A. Miller (romantic suspense but not smutty)
Not What She Seems by Victorine Lieske (romantic suspense but not smutty)
A Time To Heal by Barbara Cameron (Amish romance, definitly not smutty)

If you have a kindle or the kindle ap, remember there are tons of free books  (classic and independent authors trying to get their name out there), so if you start it and it's terrible you won't feel bad for having purchased something:

  • The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher are pretty good.  You can get books 1-6 in a single e-book and that should last for a lont time (I think it is around 1800 pages total).  I know my library carried it in epub format becaue I had it checked out for the longest time.

  • I enjoyed Divergent almost as much as The Hunger Games.

I'm reading the second book of the Millennim series right now. I enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and really like this one too (The Girl Who Played with Fire).
