SLR users- What lens would you recommend?
Thanks to many helpful Nesties on here, I've been reading on using my SLR (Nikon D60) past the auto mode.
We plan on taking a photo class but since reading it, I've been wondering what lens should we eventually get? I know someone mentioned I should get a prime lens (either 35mm or 50mm) with f/1.8.
Are there any other lens you'd recommend? We do a fair amount of traveling and I'd like to capture some great shots to capture the memories on these travels. Would you recommend a zoom lens if necessary?
fwiw, I am by no means (and do not plan to be) a photographer... just trying to capture better pictures

How did you decide b/w 50mm and 35mm?
Did you purchase any additional lenses?
Just from referrals.
I do not have any other lenses at this point.

I have a 35 mm f/1.8. If you've got a smaller house, it's a little easier to work with. (You might find yourself backing up a lot with the 50 mm.)
I also have a Tamron 28 - 75 f/2.8. It's a good all-purpose lens.
I am actually looking for a macro lens too! Can you link where you got it?
