How do I treat head lice?
Is it just a kit to use? We got a letter home today saying that someone in Jon and Matthew's class and bus had a case of lice. I checked Matthew's head and there's a bug crawling through it. EWWW! I'm going to strip down the beds right now. What else should I do?
Re: How do I treat head lice?
either wash all plush animals in hot water or bag them for a month (not kidding, seal them for a month). do the kit once now and once in 14 days. and boil his comb.
also, there should be a spray in the kit. make sure to spray your couch and any soft places where he sits.
you should probably check the rest of the boys, too. those things spread like fire. i got it from grace once.
Just another option that is free of all of those chemicals...my DD got it last year and I was so freaked out I called a company to come to our house. They used olive oil on all of us and a fine tooth nit comb. It was probably more messy, but it worked and it was much safer to use. On boys it would be even easier. I can tell you (or anyone else) more if wanted.
The kit in the drug store is not worth sh*t. I was treating my h ead with it and still had it.
You do need the special lice comb, you need to comb the hair from all 4 sides, very little at a time. I also had a company that usues all natural products come out. Chances are that you have it too so make sure someone does your head. It's nearly impossible to do your own.
the company i got it from is in highland park, you can also buy non-toxic products to treat with from them.

www.familyliceremoval.comProbably no need to focus on the cat. Lice are species specific: http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/parasites/f/lice.htm
you need a really good lice comb..not the plastic drug store one and a huge bottle of olive oil ( not extra virgin) you need to comb thru piece by piece, top bottom sides with the olive oil and then wipe comb on a white paper towel with each stroke to see what you are getting ( bugs vs nits)...comb out every night for 1 week and then every other night for the second week. then douse hair with olive oil and sleep in that with shower cap on. that will smother larvae as they emerge and then you comb them out with the next days combing. the only thing that washes olive oil out is dish soap, so you have to shampoo in the am with that. you can google search olive oil/lice. i paid to have a company come to the house and treat us all, because i got them too and i could not comb out my own hair and it was the best money spent. I know what to do going forward and it worked. no need for any of the drugstore stuff.
edited to add...a week is more than enough time to bag bedding..they can't live without a human host for more than 3 days.
You can tell her that 1. it has NOTHING to do with your house. 2. Lice don't like dirty, they like CLEAN!
You always know what to say, Debbie. Gabe's camp over the summer had a kid with head lice, fortunately, Gabe somehow did not catch it, but I am WAITING. I had head lice when I was in second grade...sorry Marissa, I hope it doesn't take too long to treat.
You will forever be my best friend. I can almost feel our hugs. I will ensure everyone will know (now and in the future) what a genuine, kind, loving person you were...I already miss your laughter and our daily conversations. I love you, Samantha. May 20, 1983- February 20, 2012
lol unfortunately, I learned more than anyone ever wants to know about lice.
