LA recs for a teenager? (hotel/activites/restaurants)

This is for a co-worker's daughter who is going out there during March (daughter and her mother will be going).

She's really into the "celebrity scene" (as in restaurants/stores celebrities might be, but obviously not a club/bar) For example, she really wants to go to PinkBerry (even though we have one in Chicago now) because she heard a lot of celebrities like Lauren Conrad go there.  She would also like to go to the Laguna Beach area as well.

Her mom also wanted to know the best area to stay in a hotel.  Someone told her Anaheim, but she was looking into West Hollywood or Beverely Hills.

I actually went to LA in HS so I suggested the Kodak & Chinese Theater, check out the shopping scene at The Grove & Rodeo Drive, and maybe a Hollywood tour  for activities (but don't know any companies that do the tour)

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • You need misoangry!

If she's into old hollywood at all, I found the Milennium Biltmore (in downtown LA) to be really neat.  It's incredibly beautiful, they've done a ton of filming there over the years and it used to be the home for the Academy Awards and there is a tiny hallway "museum" full of old photographs from that time.

The Standard (hotel) is nearby and has a reasonably hip rooftop bar.

The only place I ever saw a star was Venice - Tracey Ullman.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • The Ivy used to be a celeb hot spot - I don't know if it's "over" by now. Urth Caffe is also celeb-y (or was..it's been a while since I lived there). I'm guessing she'll want to wander around Rodeo Drive and have a cupcake at Sprinkles.

They have those tours that take you around to see stars' homes - I don't know if she'd want to do that. Or there's usually someone on the corner of Sunset Blvd by UCLA selling star maps if they want to do it themselves. Oh, and on weekends people always go hiking in Runyon Canyon, if she and her mom want to get some exercise and maybe run into some stars with their dogs :)

Why on earth would they stay in Anaheim?! Unless they want to go to Disneyland, that's an awful idea. Beverly Hills or West Hollywood are much better. Santa Monica's a great area too, but West Hollywood would be closer to what they want to do.

  • Almost forgot! They should check if there are any movie premieres while they're there - a bunch are done in Westwood, right by UCLA, and there's where I saw most famous people. I found this, but I'm sure there are other calendars: http://www.seeing-stars.com/calendar/.
  • Thank you ladies!

I will also try to page Miso on MM...
