Kristen - Moroccan Oil

I've never heard of it.  Which products do you use?  I've been looking for some new straightening products for my straggly hair.

Re: Kristen - Moroccan Oil

  • I'm not Kristen, but I was using the Moroccan oil stuff -  just the straight up oil, I haven't tried anything else. I loved it -  I ran out and need to get some more.

You can get the oil in regular or light - I'm pretty sure it's available in most salons and probably some beauty stores.  I put it on my hair when it's wet, from about the nape of the neck down, mostly concentrating on the very ends, before I blow dry. You can rub a little between your palms and smooth it over dry hair too to get the fly aways.

  • Ditto Jens.

I use the regular oil treatment. I've been using it less than a week and I can tell a huge difference. I just smooth a bit on before blow-drying.

  • Not Kristen, but I use Moroccan oil all the time. I don't know your hair type but mine is thick, curly, and long. I use Agadir spray oil every other day and it has done wonders for keeping my hair smooth and shiny. I've also tried the Moroccan Oil Shampoo by Organix. It's ok but nothing to write home about.

I don't think it really does much as far as helping to straighten or keep straightened hair though. I typically use Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight or Got2Be Guardian Angel (both are for high heat tools) to help keep my hair smooth after straightening. If I don't use something my hair will curl up within an hour or two of straightening. I also don't straighten every day.

  • Thanks Jens and Okla! I'm going to go get some today! I think a new hairstyle will help me too. I think I need to go back to a mostly one-length style. The layers really show off my course, unmanageable hairs that occupy the bottom half of my head.
  • I have straight but frizzy hair.  If I wear my hair down, I usually use a straightening iron, but just because it makes my hair smooth and shiny.  Since my hair is straight to start out with, the iron just makes it completely flat and boring. Will this magic moroccan oil give me smooth shiny hair that isn't completely stick straight? Please say yes.

  • No problem! And pff, your hair is lovely.

I don't know if Moroccan oil is good for keeping hair straight or for a lot of heat protection. I'd probably use it in combination with a heat protectant or straightening balm if that's your end goal.

  • Ditto everyone else. I use the oil. It doesn't really help me straighten it but it makes it super silky and shiny.

  • I use it too.  My mom owns a salon and they sale a ton of it.  I've tried about every product they have.

The shampoo/conditioner is only ok.  I didn't love it.  I like to wash my hair every 3 days and these weighed my hair down a lot.  I barely made it 2 days because it got so oily.  I prefer Alfapar in the red bottle.

The oil is amazing. It helps drying time by like 40%. I have so much hair that I prefer to let it air dry a bit, then blow dry.  It air dries in half the time. And just put it at the ends, not near your scalp  I use the regular not light.

I have really thick and wavy hair.  I use the intense curl cream when I don't feel like straightening.and I like it, it helps form curls and doesn't add a lot of weight.

The Hydrating Hair Mask is also really good. I brush it through my hair, then wrap saran wrap around my head and leave it on for about an hour.  I do this about once a month and it makes my hair super soft and I've had a lot less breakage since I've started using it.

If there is one hair product I HIGHLY recommend it is a Wet Brush.  They are amazing.  It brushes straight through your hair when it's wet with no tangling.  I have no clue how it works, but it's awesome.

  • Yea it has nothing to do with keeping your hair straight or straightening it.  It's just a hydrating oil.  It supposedly to actually penetrate your hair follicles.  If you already have limp/heavish hair when it's straightened this product probably wouldn't help with that.

  • I used to use just the straight Moroccan Oil, which did a nice job smoothing but could sometimes make my hair prematurely oily. My hairdresser gave me this as a gift and I love it! http://moroccanoil.com/products/Hydrating-Styling-Cream

My hair is thick, long and straight and can look frizzy when blown out if I dont use a good product. This gives it just the right balance.

  • I use the Treatment, and I love it!  My hair is coarse, thick and wavy and I straighten it daily, and while I don't think it helps with actually removing the curl, it makes it so much healthier and softer looking and I don't have those little fly aways that can create a halo of sorts....

For what its worth, the little bottle lasts forever too!!

Thanks...that's the problem with my hair.  It's course and frizzy so I straighten it every day.  I'm looking for something that makes it look softer and healthier.

Any good heat protectants to recommend?

  • You don't need one if you use the Moroccan Oil.
