Maine - hotel recs

Hi ladies,

We are planning a road trip in August along the Maine coast. We have nailed down our locations - 4 nights Bar Harbor, 2 nights Camden and 2 nights Kennebunkport. I was hoping to get hotel recommendations for these areas. It will DH, myself and our 4 year old DS. We'd like family friendly but a little on the upscale side (no motel style). What are your recs for these towns?

 Thanks,

Gina

Re: Maine - hotel recs

  • I am from Kennebunk, Maine. There are a ton of really nice B&Bs but I am assuming you want more of a hotel/resort type place.

Check out the Colony hotel--nice pool and the ocean is across the street. It is a big old grand hotel that has mantained well--I think but I haven't seen the rooms.

The Yachtsman is a great location and very nice.

The Nonantum is another large old hotel --walking distant to town, on the river, with a pool,etc...

There is a new place in Cape Porpoise (about 10 minute drive from Kennebunkport) called Hidden pond--supposed to be rustic luxury. The restaurant called Earth has gooten amazing reviews and there is a tree top spa.

And the Cottages at Cabot cove are spectacular.

Have fun sounds like a perfect trip. Maine is beautiful --and August is the perfect time to go.

  • We stayed in the honeymoon suite of the Castlemaine Inn, a B&B in Bar Harbor.  It's basically it's own little cottage with a separate entrance from the rest of the inn.  The breakfast was pretty basic, but the room was great.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • In Camden, DH an I stayed at the Whitehall Inn. A nice B&B but not a resort. We just spent one night travelling from Manchester to Acadia area.
