Dress Opinions

So my sister is considering this dress for a bridesmaid dress for my wedding and I wanted to, you know, ask my friends what they think.  The requirements I gave them were ~ knee length and black.  They don't have to match, but it's cool if they do too.

I think it's adorable.  It is only $20 at Target! Should she go for this one? Keep shopping since there's plenty of time?  If she gets it, any suggestions for accessories?

Also, since she just couldn't quit being cute today, she also tried on this dress just because.  I briefly considered pretending this was me and my outfit of the day tomorrow.

Re: Dress Opinions

  • I like both of those dresses and even tried on the first one last weekend, but then talked myself out of buying it.  then I got home and regretted it.  anyway, she should buy it, and if she finds something she likes better I'm sure she can still get plenty of wear out of this one.

  • I think it looks good on her. I would get it and accessorize it sort of breakfast at tiffany's-esque.

And at that price, if the girls all have similar bodies I'd but buy the dress for them all.

  • I think the dress in the first pic is adorable, and it meets your requirements for their apparel. Also, it's a great deal. Something like that would be $100 or more at a bridal shop. If you've still got a lot of time, but that dress is something you both like, get it. But keep the receipt just incase you find something else you would prefer instead. Then just return it and you didnt lose that money. If you find something else past the time of the return policy, it's only $20 spent, and its also a great dress for other occasions as well. :)
  • I love the first dress and it looks great on her.

  • It's adorable! She should go for it.
  • mod, I love both of those necklaces, I wish I had somewhere to wear them.

  • It's cute. For 20 bucks, why not!

  • Erm, wendy, the second one is a wee bit see through.  Just saying something in case you want to remove the pic.

That said, I really like the first one and agree that even if she doesn't end up using it as a BM dress, she'll still be getting a great LBD for $20.

  • Absolutely! Mashed pinched it on the head. Even if they don't wear it for the wedding, it's a super cute dress she can wear for whenever. For cheap!
  • I feel like I'm missing something. I don't see a problem.
  • For 20.00 she knows she has a dress. She may find something else she loves more closer to the date and then, who cares? It was only 20.00! :)

  • I zoomed that fvcker in too and I didn't see any nip. Or bum. I feel gypped. I was told there would be bum and nip.
  • Also she is cute!

  • It's not obscene or anything.  I can just see her underwear.  It was more of a, "hey, pssst, you (or your sister, in this case) have some TP on your shoe."  Not, "This picture is squicky.  LOCK IT DOWN."

  • I love the first one. Super cute and versatile. I think HT is referring to the skirt, that shows her underwear outline. She'd just need some spanx.

  • I like the dress but I feel in looks more business cocktail party than wedding, especially given how glamtastic your dress is.  What's the fabric?

This is a good point. Also, I could go for more of a plunging neckline or back or something. But I'm slightly whorish.

I think Fallin has a good point, but what about Mod's suggestion of glamming it up? It might work for your fancy-pants wedding with the right accessories, and if not it's a nice dress for $20 for another occasion.

O/T- Will somebody please say something that lets me shop at Target again? I miss it so, so much. And I need clothes like whoa.

  • It's a polyester blend.

You may be right about the business cocktail vibe.

  • I think the first one is super cute just to have, but not for a BM if your dress is fancy (I don't remember if I saw the final cut). I like a long dress for BMs though- just me. I'm not a fan of cocktail length. But that could be because I hate my legs and think long dresses are more slimming.
  • I say do it. But this is also coming from a girl whose bridesmaids bought their dresses at the same place for about the same price. (Target and $20)

Both of them got a lot of use out of them (and my cousin actually wore hers before the wedding for her graduation)

  • She looks super cute in both. I'm no good at these sorts of things, but I wouldn't look askance at that as a BM dress, esp if it's all dressed up with accessories.

Floor length is probably out of the question. I don't want them to have to spend a hundred bucks or so for something they'll never ever wear again.

Is after-prom at Ross or TJ Maxx too skanky?

  • I like both of those.  I might have to go try the second one on myself even though the last thing I need is another dress.  But I'm with Fallin -- the first dress is lovely but I think doesn't jive well with your dress.  I think it'd be better if they fancied it up just a bit more.  Maybe something with a retro vibe.

  • Ix-nay on the floor length, people. I don't like my ass to sweat.
  • I love that dress, and it looks great on her.  I agree that it might not be quite fancy enough for a bm dress, but she should buy it either way.

I love cocktail length for weddings.  But, my bridesmaids wore knee length black dresses, so I am probably biased.  They all looked hot, and they've all worn the dress to other places, so that's a win in my book.
