  • I voted SS.  When we bought our second car in October, we had a basic priority list.  First, we knew we wanted an SUV because we really want/need 4WD for the outdoorsy stuff we do, and we wanted room to pack in lots of stuff (climbing gear, camping gear, etc...).  But second, we knew we wanted to pay cash, which seriously limited our options.  Once we figured out which SUVs we could get for the price we were willing to pay, we researched to find brands that were in that price range that had solid reputations for reliability and low maintenance costs.  Bells and whistles were super low on our list.  (We ended up with a '98 Explorer, which I'm really liking, despite the fact that our "new" car is 5 years older than our "old" car.)

  • Maybe it is lumped under reliability, but my #1 priority when buying a car is safety - I want a car that performs well in crash test reports.  I know it won't be a guarantee, but I can't think of anything more important than not being injured severely in a car accident.

I remember my parents got me a car when I turned 16 and then I pulled the crash test reports on it a few years later and was like, 'Oh $hit!  They must want me dead.'  I fast-talked my way into a replacement car when I showed my dad just how bad the crash test ratings were on that particular model...

  • When I was looking for my car right before DH got home from deployment (sold my truck since we didnt need two) I already knew I wanted to get a tahoe for reliability, space, and because I knew I could snazz it up if I wanted. So once I got that decided I looked for a few months to find one that was priced right and didnt have outrageous amount of miles. So I would say reliability and price are both at the top for me.

  • This poll sucks! This is all coming from a girl who took an basic automotive course in high school, has a brother who is a mechanic, and since I grew up on a farm..

I'm all about looks of a vehicle for the most part, but also about performance and how it generally holds up.. so for me those are all high on the list of priorities.. how am I supposed to just choose one?

ETA: this is because I'm tired.. duh choose SS, but did I nope, went with Reliability, which is important as well!

  • I chose looks, etc.

Like pp mentioned, I have a list of "must haves" in a vehicle.  (I'm casually eying right now.)  I do not want a mini van, that I can say for sure, but I want a lot of room.  I want a big car.  If I can touch the passenger door from my seat without unbuckling my seat belt, it is way too narrow.  Aesthetically, I want something that doesn't look weird like the Soul (no offense), but doesn't look like every other car out there (Accord, etc.)

Right now I have a Magnum and it's PERFECT for me.  Unfortunately, it's a 2005 with closing on 100k miles on it, and they don't make them anymore. :(

The only car out there right now that I'm interested in is the Ford Flex.  I would appreciate a Lincoln Town Car, but the look of it isn't quite unique enough for me, I don't think.

  • I picked reliability. In my household growing up, my parents always had 'okay' vehicles. I remember only 1 being completely reliable, and now that I am older and have my own vehicles to take care of, their 1 competent vehicle that I remember really wasn't that reliable. I have taken a different approach, and H came trained with these qualities as well, take really good care of your car and it should, should is the key word, take care of you. I drive a 98' Ford Ranger that I love. And in Feb of 08' we bought a 00' Tahoe. The Tahoe has had some issues. Like, it wanted a new engine a couple years ago. I wanted to beat it with a crowbar. But other than that, it's been very reliable and I'm not worried. It'll be paid off this year and then we look at a luxury car. :) My pick! Good luck Jenuinne!

  • I said reliability just because there's nothing worse than driving through the ghetto on the way home from work in the middle of the night and having your car die.  Seriously.

However, as soon as we finish buying this dang house (omgtakingfoooorevvvverrrrrr), we're going to start looking into a newer car, and my "must haves" are: CD player or better (we have cassette, and the car before just had radio lol), cup holders (seriously, I didn't know there were cars that didn't have cup holders until the past two cars we've had), and a working cigarette lighter so I can actually use my car charger for my phone haha
