I am a dirty, dirty girl

My hair stylist is always pushing me to skip washing my hair everyday, but I always resist because I have such fine hair.  It is always greasy when I wake up in the morning.

She gave me a great dry shampoo and I tried it out today.  I did wake up with semi-gross hair that had bed head "shape" to it.  I didn't wash it or wet it in the shower.  When I got out, I combed my hair and sprayed that stuff at my roots and restyled.  It looks pretty good, even DH said so.

I can't do this all the time due to working out at night, but I can probably skip 2-3 shampoos a week.

So, there is my lame story of the day.

Re: I am a dirty, dirty girl

  • well, what's the product? I'm always down to try something new for my super fine/thinning/boring hair...

  • I've tried not washing my hair everyday once and it looked awful! I wish I could skip a wash. My hair is so thick and it takes forever to dry.

Lol, I had little to add to this post but the boss is in a meeting so I'm taking full advantage.

  • Awesome!   Is it a salon brand, or something we can find in the stores everywhere?

I am like you with the fine hair, and if I don't shower/blowdry then my hair has no shape or body.     Glad you found a product that works well!

  • I've always wondered about dry shampoo.  My hair is very fine and thin, too.  And I also suffer from major bedhead.  I think it's because I use a decent amount of styling product.  Which brand did you use?  Since you used it today, will you have to wash your hair tomorrow or can you use the dry shampoo again tomorrow (assuming you don't workout tonight)?

If I workout the night before, then for me dry shampoo would not be an option because I'm dripping after every workout.

  • I haven't "washed" my hair since Saturday. I usually do Saturday and Wednesday, but I'm going away this weekend and won't have time to do my full routine, so I skipped Wednesday and am going to do it tomorrow morning or tonight if I find the time. We can be dirty, dirty girls together.
  • I'm the same way, Ang! I've heard about it before, but have never gotten a review from somebody not in a commercial. What brand is it? and how much does it cost?

Now, do you wet it or use conditioner on the days you don't wash? I'm washing my hair around 3-4x a week and trying to cut down.

If you don't wet it or anything how do you restyle without it being frizzy?

haha, that is why I love TN - I can ask real individuals their opinions of products instead of googling reviews (which sometimes provide valid information, but not always).

I got it at the salon, but it is made by TIGI and I have seen them in grocery stores before - not that product though.  I think it is pretty new.

I will wash it tomorrow because I have a killer workout for tonight and I don't think my hair can stand it one more day, lol!

I think it cost me under $20 for a huge spray can.  It should last me for months and months.  It smelled pretty good too and was easy to use.

I use conditioner and gel everyday. I rinse it out really well in the AM, then condition/style as usual. There are some days (VERY FEW) that I wake up with hair decent enough to fluff a bit and go. Sometimes I can wear my hair in a very high, loose ponytail before bed and it helps, as does my satin pillowcase.

  • The dry shampoo I tried before didn't work with my hair for whatever reason. I usually wash mine every other day, but my friend is able to go 3 days between washes since she switched out her regular shampoo for a baking soda/ACV mix. I've only washed twice with it, but I'm hoping it will give me more time between washes. Apparently, it restores the natural balance instead of stripping the oils that make your hair shiny and healthy looking, like normal shampoo does. We'll see.

Interesting.  I tried another brand of dry shampoo about a year ago and that didn't work on me either.

If she is using products with silicones in them (II Dimethicone) she'll need a sulfate shampoo every once in a while. Most cones are not water soluble and will build up leaving her hair heavy.

I use the BS/ACV rinse every Saturday. My hair adores it.

  • I wash my hair twice a week. Thursdays and Sundays/monday-ish.

I'm a dirty girl. And I use Dirty Secret from bed head.

  • I wish I could not wash my hair every day.  It's so fine and thin that it gets greasy so fast.  Plus with working out it gets super nasty.  I normally take 2 showers a day and wash my hair both times.  I know it's probably awful for it, but I don't know what else to do.  I tried the dry shampoo but it didn't seem to work very well for me.

My hair is very thick and I have lots of it. It takes forever to dry as well, hence why I started washing less - pure laziness.

I used tobe this way. You have to start off with every other day washing and move from there. It does take time. Right now your scalp is producing lots of oils to make up for the washing away of oils you are doing every day.

I take 2 showers a day also and the 2nd shower I usually just rinse the sweat out and then let it air dry.

Jen, you sound like me! All the way!

I have to use a daily leave-in conditioner and a curling solution. But you also have thick curly hair.

    Have you tried Argan Oil?

Not lame but interesting. I always wondered how fine haired chicas care for their hair if they are workout babes. I was told not to wash my hair after each workout but wet the hair and use daily leave-in conditioner.

  • Oooh thanks for posting this!  I've tried the Suave and the Treseme dry shampoos but I didn't like them at all.

I only wash my hair ~3 times/week and I practice hot yoga 5-6 days/week.  I always "wash" my  hair with conditioner on the nights I don't use shampoo and let it air dry.  My stylist recommended that I skip washings too b/c I was getting my hair professionally colored.  It took a while - like several weeks - my hair gradually "adjusted" and now I'll skip even getting it wet if I flat iron it and don't work out.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Glad you found something that works for you. I tried a dry shampoo but just couldn't deal with the way it made my hair feel. It looked okay but felt dirty to me.

  • I only wash mine every other day, but I can't go longer than that. I've tried Tresseme dry shampoo, and while it worked alright, I didn't love the way it made my hair feel. I usually just wear my hair pulled back on the day I don't wash it, but I might have to try that product.
