What is your opinion on beds flush...

against a wall?

We have a small bedroom, and I wanted to rearrange some furniture. 2 of the walls have closets, 2 of the walls have windows. Some decorating sites have said to place the bed flush against the wall. IDK, I think it looks less "sophisticated" (maybe that's not the best word).

What's your opinion?

Re: What is your opinion on beds flush...

  • I think it depends on the entire room.  If it works best against the wall, then go for it!

You have seen our spare bedroom, there are barely any usable walls. One wall is the door and closet doors, the other wall is the sliding glass door and the 3rd wall is the window wall.

  • I don't really have an opinion when it comes to how it looks, but there is something weird about sleeping next to a wall.

  • I'm not a fan- it kind of reminds me of college? (Plus if I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I have to leap over T)

  • We used to have our bed like this, and it looked fine but it is a PITA for whoever sleeps against the wall to get in and out of bed. I liked sleeping against the wall, though.
  • It depends on the room. It's generally not my preference, but sometimes that's the only way it works. We have a bed flush against the wall in our spare bedroom because that's literally the only orientation that works.
  • I agree that it doesn't look right.  I think it looks kind of juvenile, like you're a high schooler.  Besides, with it flush against the wall, someone is "trapped" in the bed and has to crawl over the other one if they have to pee in the middle of the night.  Maybe you can use one of the windows as a headboard.  I've done that before, placing the head of the bed under a window and then getting a fancy window treatment.

  • My H hates this! We had out bed like this for a bit when we first moved in. It wasn't long berore we rearranged every thing. I'm also a freak about rearanging I do it every few months.

This.   Our spare room is the same way, but I think if we moved the big armoire out and put it in another room then we could probably fix it up better.   However, we've only had two people in that bed at the same time maybe once since we've moved in.  Usually our guests are solo if they are staying in there and I didn't think it would be too much of a problem because of that.

  • I like sleeping against the wall when I am by myself, but I am not a fan with my H because whoever is on the inside, make it a PITA to get up and go to the bathroom. That being said, we have our guest room set up like this because we don't really have another option with the queen size bed in a fairly small room.

  • If it works for you, then I think it's fine.  I couldn't do it b/c I always have to get up and pee in the night. DH usually does too, so it wouldn't work for us.

Oh no- I'm not doing it. I am not a fan of the look. I was just getting opinios. and luckily, I NEVER get up to pee.

  • It depends on the room, but I'm good with a bed being flushed against the wall so long as it's just the head.  If it was flushed against the wall on the side, I would get a bit claustrophobic.

though, it would give yo more space in the room

  • I'm not a fan of it in general but agree that sometimes it's the only option. My parents have had theirs against the wall for as long as I can remember and it seems to work fine for them.

  • Nope. Not a fan...if that's the ONLY way it would go, then yes, but otherwise there is no way.

  • I agree that it looks juvenile. If the room is for the sole purpose of sleeping, I'd rather have at least a foot on both sides of the bed if possible. If it's a multi-purpose room, I understand placing it flush against the wall.
