Re: A new way to look at camo purses!

I can't even imagine how overwhelming it is when she steams the uniforms and smells the fallen soldier. Ugh, so incredibly awesome of her but damn, that's really rough.

  • I mean it's nice that she's doing that, but there is no way I could use a purse out of the uniforms my H wore, especially if I was a recent widow.

Yeah, I really feel it's nice that she's doing that since everybody grieves differently and for some it may help them to heal. Part of grieving for me is cleansing of physical objects. I don't think I'd be able to deal with it either. Any clothing worn by him would be gone very quickly.

Obviously its different for every person but speaking from experience with my Mom's death things she wore are really special. Case in point I wear her worn out Eeyore sweatshirt all the time, especially when I'm sad and missing her.

I like the quilt idea much better than the purse one. I think the quilt would be nice to keep and snuggle up with.

Yeah me too.  I think I would possibly want the quilt made if I were in that situation.  Not the purse though.

Like others, I think it's great that this woman is doing this for these grieving spouses if that is what they want.  But I just don't see how you would want it as a purse.  I know a lot of people have opinions on the purses anyways, but the uniform of a fallen soldier I definitely don't think belongs on a purse.  When I just think of how much a purse gets knocked around, tossed on the floor, stuff spilled on, etc., I just think it's very disrespectful of the deceased.  But I think the quilt idea is really nice and touching to think of wrapping yourself in it.

  • Maybe it is because I'm really emotional right now but I ugly cried about the quilt for the baby made out of the arms of the flight suit.

  • I agree that the quilts are more appropriate in my opinion than a purse would be under these circumstances. I must have read over the purse requests....

    Crying

    Seriously.  Wow.  Absolutely heartbreaking.

  • Not to be a jerk, but could you in the future please put a sentence describing what the link is about. We have a lot of deployed SOs on this board. I do not speak for everyone but it would be nice to be warned.

  • I don't have an issue with the quilts.  The purse, I still have an issue with.  Why would you want to use your dead husband's uniform as a purse?  So you can set it on the dirty floor of a bathroom when you go pee? So you can put your wallet and all your junk in there?  Yeah, that seems so respectful.  I get people mourn in different ways, but use your head.

  • I think the purses made out of uniforms are odd anyway, but to make one out of your dead husband's uniform seems extra odd to me. The quilts however, are a good idea. And the idea she had for making the baby quilt out of the arms of the flight suit made me tear up.

It seems to me like grieving is personal, so the quilt is a private thing, something you would snuggle up in when you are alone and really down. To parade it around with a purse seems too "look at me, I'm sad." And I would feel very awkward explaining the bag to anyone who asked.

Yep. I beat my purses to hell_and back. There's no way I would want his uniform turned into a purse. I like the quilt idea so much better.
