UK Immigration fees to increase
Just a polite FYI - fees are increasing on April 6th - I know a lot of you are on Tier 1 General visas - the fee for extending a Tier 1 General visa is going up to ?1500. Dependents will be charged 50% of the main applicant's fee.
This is the same for Tier 2's ie: I have to extend our visas in July and will now need to pay ?1,402 to do it, because I've got 3 dependents.
Within the next year their aim is to charge dependents the same fee as the main applicant. So, if you're here on Tier 1 General and you are married you'll need to pay ?3000 just to extend your visa.

On a side note, is there any way of checking the status of the visa once it's with UKBA?
Oh yikes. Can I ask, BF came over for uni, and he has been working here for years. Which visa would he be on?
Also, is there any way (other than us being married) that I could transfer onto his visa? Basically, any way I can move to the UK with him aside from marriage?

Meggers, haven't you just asked him what visa he is on? It depends on where he is from and if he has any ancestral/commonwealth rights in the UK or not, but it sounds to me like he came here on a student visa ( do you know if it was before 2010?) and now is on a PSW visa (post study work - can work freely here for a period of 2 years). However, this PSW visa doesn't count at all toward settlement in the UK and he wouldn't at this stage be able to add you as his dependent.
You could be his dependent as an unmarried civil partner, but would need to show that the two of you had been living together as a couple in a sustained relationship for a period of at least 2 years directly before your application. Plus, it would all depend on the exact visa that he is on right now.
Sorry I can't help much more than that. However, as I had explained to you before, there are still options for you to come over here on your own. You could come as a student, or Tier 2 work permit - form your own company, etc. It is possible.

Did you submit by post? If so you can only check on the status of an application once it has been submitted for over 14 weeks.
If it was submitted at a PEO one day service centre and is still being considered let me know and I can give the reps desk a call for you.

I submitted via courier. Not worried yet, it's only been just over a week, just wondering. And anxiously waiting so I can book a trip!

I figured it out. He's on a tier 1 (he came from Nigeria and did his masters. He renews it in January. He's been in the UK for 7 years, I think 4 of which he's been working).
Guh. I've got some decisions I need to make in life. We should just get married and he can live in Canada. That seems easiest lol.
Tier 1 General? If so, you can become his dependent if you get married or if you can prove that you've been living together for at least 2 years.
Unfortunate that he's not closer to settlement as you could do a fiancee visa.

Nope. When we booked in December, there were only Croydon slots available in March (our visas expire March 3, so no good). We thought we had a slot in Croydon, but it got cancelled by UKBA a few weeks ago.
