Punta Cana, DR - Recs? Thoughts?

I am starting to look into some vacation ideas, and Punta Cana is one of our possible destinations. It will be me, DH and DD (she will be 2).

I am looking at the Barcelo Bavara Beach - AI, has kid friendly pool/playground, but I am open to other suggestions...

Excursions ideas?

General tips or suggestions welcomed...

    We honeymooned there last year and had a great time.  Although, we did stay at the Secrets Royal Beach.  I would definitely recommend zip lining or doing a snorkel tour of some sort.  I'm not sure about those 2 with your DD though.  Also, do not drink the water.  That was one of the first things the hotel employees told us when we arrived.  Have fun!!

    Is it BavarO? If so I went with a girlfriend of mine years ago for a week of sand, sun and drinks and it was perfect. no opinion on the kid aspect. they were there-seemed to have a great time but I totally wasn't paying attention to them. the beach there is very nice and the water was very calm from what I recall.

    i didnt have any trouble drinking the water there.

    Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

    Eighth Anniversary
    I went to Punta Cana last year and really liked it.  We stayed at the Iberostar - the food was so-so, but the staff was amazing. VERY friendly and accommodating. Plus I really liked the beach there. I seem to recall there were some kids there as well.

    Melia Caribe Tropical has a great kids area w/ playground and pool.

    we loved secrets but i am pretty sure it's adults only. unless they changed it.
