DH retiring --Question

I just barged in here yesterday with my silly question, sorry for that. I'm a fairly new MN. (Got married in November). DH is AF 27 years, some active; some reserve.

Anyhow, just wanted to say my DH is retiring this weekend. We've been together several years but I've never been able to attend another service members retirement ceremony. Everything is in order for DH's retirement, but I'm curious if any of you have any tips. Since we aren't doing any of the set up and coordination, I'm a bit nervous that maybe I'm unaware of some responsibility I have or some thoughtful tidbit I should be doing or contributing to the day. The reserve side is at base starting today, so I can ask, but thought I'd start here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • You don't have to do anything.  Dress nicely, as they'll likely honor you in some way too for supporting him.

Based on your husband's crabbiness about that contractor, I'm really shocked he's been in 27 years.  I wouldn't expect the ongoing petty comments from someone who's presumably, like, 50 years old.

Thank you Ojo for that laugh. I really needed one today.

  • OP - Has he talked to the command to see if they are throwing a reception after the ceremony? Sometimes this is paid for by the command and sometimes it is footed by the service member.

A friend just retired - the command did the whole ceremony outside and he threw an invitation only reception which he paid for. I wore a maxi dress, cardigan, and fun flats - uniform of the day was cammies and I live in a very casual/relaxed environment. If this were say in DC/Quantico I would have been underdressed. I base my attire off of what the uniform of the day/event will be and location.

  • Thanks for the help ladies.

DH isn't crabby about the contractor, it's the wife and I guess he's entitled to be annoyed just like she's entitled to feel like it's okay to buy  "I'm a DOD wife" t shirts. It's funny because normally stuff just rolls off his back, but this girl really just got under his skin.

Who cares if she has that shirt?! Jesus God.

  • Speaking of t-shirts and Jesus God, I like to picture Jesus in a tuxedo t-shirt because it says I want to be formal, but I like to party too.

Jesus should also sport a mullet along with this; you know, to really drive the point home.

Business in the front, party in the back.

  • If your mullet isn't permed, I don't understand the point.

Oh, obviously, permed is the only way to go.

    Case in point:

It's fancy, professional, and says he's a regular salt of the earth kind of guy.

I just about spit out my Hot Coco. It's been long enough since I've seen it last, the quotes are no longer annoying but back to being funny again. :)
