Three Things Thursday

Growing up, what were three professions that you thought you might like to try?

Re: Three Things Thursday

  • My old standby as a kid was "I want to be a singer" because I liked to perform and put on little shows.  Now I can hardly watch American Idol singers perform without feeling like I'm going to throw up for them, so clearly the nerves would be a problem.

I remember saying I wanted to be a marine biologist for a while, although in retrospect I find this hilarious because I honestly don't even like the ocean/lakes/big bodies of water.  The idea of sharks and other predators scares the H out of me so obviously that job is a joke.

The most realistic thing that I can actually see myself doing is to be a "baby nurse". I think it'd be a lot of fun working in a maternity ward but the crazy hours would kill me.

  • Writer, lawyer or Veterinarian.  The first two were when I was much younger and I didn't realize I would suck at either of those. Ha!  I do wish I would have gone for being a veterinarian though.

  • I wanted to be a school bus driver with my best friend.  We thought it would be so cool if we both did it and we could talk to each other over the radio haha.    I also wanted to be a teacher and  a singer.

My sister told her first grade class that she wanted to be a Las Vegas Showgirl haha.

  • 1. Actress. My grandpa crushed my dreams when I was like, 7, telling me that I would not make it, be broke, and live out of my car (now I look at that and think, so? - But I never wanted to do it to be famous, I just liked acting.)

    2. Homicide detective. I have always loved crime shows but never thought I would be smart enough to be a lab. tech or coroner.

    3. Missionary. I still have urges to do missions, but at this point in my life, I'd like to stay put and graduate. Then reanalyze.

I don't know what I find funnier - you and your friend wanting to talk to each other over the radios, or your sister wants to be a Las Vegas Showgirl, haha!

  • I always wanted to be a Veterinarian until I realized that I would have to put animals to sleep Sad, so that went out the window.

Next I wanted to be a crime scene investigator, not sure what happened to that haha

And lastly, I wanted to work for the FBI/CIA.  I thought it would be so cool to be a covert agent, and I still kind of do Embarrassed

My cousin wanted to be a vet, until her mom told her she would have to put animals down. She cried.

  • When I was really little, I remember wanting to be a mail carrier or a bank teller (because they get to pass out dum-dums, lol).

As I got older, I came up with a new career plan about every other day.  My plans included: doctor, teacher, FBI agent, and air force pilot.  I also remember after I saw Twister (the movie) I wanted to be a tornado-chaser.  My mom thought I was crazy.

In high school, I finally settled on being an engineer.  I got as far as filling out my college application to U of M's engineering school, wrote an essay and everything.  But my azzhole calculus teacher made me feel like I sucked at math, so I applied to U of M's LS&A college instead and found a major that didn't require any math classes.

    3. Missionary. I still have urges to do missions, but at this point in my life, I'd like to stay put and graduate. Then reanalyze.

You could still do this even with a full time "day job" my Dad does missionary work a couple times a year.

  • This is hilarious! I was like wow great minds think alike! haha
  • 1.  When I was in a dance recital at age 3, they asked this question individually while we walked on stage and my answer was "A Mommy".

    2.  A Rockette, I was packed and ready to go to Chicago to audition and had my dad re-measure me and sure enough, I was a half inch too short Crying

    3.  A Nurse, I wanted to take care of the babies in the hospital when they were born, but then someone told me not every baby is healthy, I'd have to give shots, take blood, etc and I quickly changed my mind.

I think that's what it will eventually turn into. However, right now it's difficult because of work and school schedule. I really love the idea of being to travel (within the U.S. AND all over the world), exploring our cultures, and helping others all in one.

  • 1. Vet - until I learned that you have to preform euthanasia

    2. Singer - yes, my cousins and I had a "band" for a number of year.  It maily consisted of us singing Spice Girls in my grandma's basement

    3. A nun - I seriously considered it for about a week when I was about 8

  • The only job I ever really remember wanting is to be an architect.  That lasted two years in college.  :)

Well, there was the time my cousins and I wanted to be punk rock ballerinas.  Of course, we had the slight problem of not being able to sing OR dance...

  • 1. Vet--I even decided that i wanted to go to UC Davis because they have a veterinary program. (Not sure how I figured that out, since I was maybe 10 years old) Then I realized that being a vet would include gross stuff---I think the example that sent me over the edge was putting on a long glove and getting to know a horse's backside/internal organs reaaaaaaaaaaaaallly well.

    2. A dancer--I took a few classes recreationally every year, but was never exactly ballerina material. I wanted to tap. I wasn't exactly tapper material, either. (Hello, twinkies! Never mind the whole talent issue!)

    3. A nurse--When I was a sophomore my dad had open heart surgery and I somehow thought it would be a good idea to be able to help people like him. Then I thought about the blood. It lasted about a week.

  • I first wanted to be a vet until I learned that you had to put some animals down; I didn't want to do that.

I then decided I wanted to be a neurosurgeon when I was 5.  My dad had epilepsy and had surgery to fix it.

Somewhere in there I also wanted to be a singer.  I loved singing for my grandparents and I'd do a little dance/song number for anyone if the wanted to listen.

  • Growing up I wanted to be a teacher.

In high school, I took cosmetology class because I wanted to open my own salon

shortly after I wanted to be an interior designer...

I now run my own business as a photographer/ and work as a newborn photographer @ Beaumont hosptial. All along the creativity was there - was just not sure how to use it! haha. Now I have found my niche and I could not be happier =)
