We are thinking of going in late August for about 9 days. Planning to camp most of the time (am I crazy?), but a few nights will be in hotels.
Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve are on my list. Any reviews of those or other recommendations?
Re: Tell me about Oahu
Buy a Revealed Book (they're blue). THey're like my bible when I go to Hawaii.
I loved the Polynesian Cultural Center there.

I'm 99% sure I still have ours. If you want it, I'll send it your way.
Diamond head was really cool but I'd suggest doing it on the coolest day you're there. We were feeling ambitious and decided to walk from our hotel on the beach to the park. It was a mistake. We were so hot and tired by the time we got to the top it was hard to enjoy it!
Pearl Harbor is awesome. There's a lot of tours that do it, but you really don't need a tour at all. You do need to get there early-ish in the day, though, because the lines get redic. We did the battleship Missouri while we were over there too - also very cool.
We had a lot of fun with the International Marketplace (http://www.internationalmarketplacewaikiki.com/). It's pretty much just cheap shops, but great for souvineers. We got plate lunches there almost everyday - great local food! And, at night you get a lot of street performers around that area/the main street by the beach which were fun to walk around and see.
Dole Pineapple Plantation is also really cool.
We did a kayak tour through Shaka Kayaks and it was my favorite part of Oahu. It's a little $$, but they did such an awesome job. The turtles in the area are used to this kayak tour so they swam right under us! So, so cool.
Kate's Recipe Box || Relatively Bookish
Oh I could tell you tons! Rent a car and drive up the north shore and to pipeline. There are some of the most amazing views I've ever seen.
Check out the royal Hawaiian hotel. Completely classic Hawaii.
Spend tons and tons of time doing the historical stuff.
Check out the punch bowl. Incredibly moving.
Go to Lobster King in China town to eat. OMG!
Drive around the island as much as you can and explore. You really miss a lot if you stay put.
I could go on and on. Let me know if you have questions.
THIS...we did this for The Big Island and it was fabulous to have.
There was a Maui Revealed ap that we downloaded for our iPhones before we left. It's basically the book in your pocket, but it had an interactive GPS map that was nice to have.
I just booked for August 25 to September 3!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Kate, if you won't mind letting me borrow your Revealed book, I would appreciate it! xoxo
Jealous!!!
