Thank you for your feedback a couple of days ago about the LeapPad vs Innotouch. After playing with them in the store we decided to go with the LeapPad but then I got to thinking, why not just get her an iPod Touch? With the LeapPad programs/games around $25 a pop, would it be smarter to go with the iPod Touch and get apps? DH & I both have old skool iPods so we are not so familiar with the touch. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!
Re: LeapPad vs iPod Touch
This is for M and M alone?
Why not just get her an iPad? it's bigger than the iPod Touch. And I think you can drop a pretty penny on the iPod touch, so why not just get the iPad.
If you can't tell I'd go iPad
Actually, we don't have either one... But the one thing that comes to mind is the fact that I (not DD or anyone else I can blame it on, unfortunately) recently dropped my iPad, and the screen -- which is glass -- broke. I'm guessing the iPod touch has a glass screen too..? If so, for general durability reasons, I'd choose the LeapPad.
Not to add to the dilema, but you may want to look into a Nook Color. I agree the iPad would be great too, but the Nook Color will do almost everything an iPad will do, with much less expense.
I also like that the Nook Color is a nice size in between the iTouch and the iPad. DD2 is able to use it without an issue, and DD1 loves it as well for different apps. I've found the price of the apps is similar to the iPad/iTouch but there are more free kids apps I think.
One more benefit of our Nook Color is DD1 uses it to read books since it also works as an e-Reader...something to think about for long term use.

I also debated the same thing - was going to get a LeadPad for our son and then decided, why not get an iPad that we can all use. My husband and I each have an iPod Touch and our son has been using them for about 2 years. Sometimes it's easy to entertain him when waiting at the doctor office or such. He has his own apps on both and loves to play them. But, there are rules attached with using the Touch or the iPad....he must be sitting down, in a chair (usually the recliner) and he's usually close by one of us so we can help if he needs it or monitor that he's not buying new apps or accidently upgrading some of the free ones. We do not have an internet plan and just use the wi-fi.
We also thought it might come in handy if we go on vacation and want to watch a movie in the car or airplane.
Side note - A friend of ours bought a used iPod Touch on craigslist for their son's 1st birthday because he kept wanting to play with dad's work iPhone. Might be worth checking out if that's the route you go.
If you get an iPod, you might look into this case
