POLL: Bad Weather

Re: POLL: Bad Weather

  • I honestly think I'd just have to stat praying, real hard.

We're on a slab, so there is no basement or crawl space. And our bathroom has a window and is on an outer wall. The hallway (which is open to every room) is the center of our home.

    I hate it, come spring.

  • We don't typically have weather here that requires us to hide somewhere, but I guess I'd  go in the basement. My basement if full of windows, though, so it wouldn't be any safer than upstairs.

  • Haha at the last option.

When we had bad storms this past spring, my sister and I ran to the bathtub in the basement. Not the best choice because every room in the basement has a window.

We have a crawl space but there is a lot junk there that would make it difficult. It's also pretty scary underneath there.

  • I said "God."

Right now, our apartment building is the lowest level of the building and its sort of basement-y.  I don't go to a central room, though, largely because I grew up in the Midwest and hear at least a dozen tornado sirens a year and have yet to be part of one.

I voted god, but we are in the same situation as you. We don't really have a good place to go. We have one interior coat closet that is tiiiiny, but it would be out place if we had to go somewhere.

We are sorta in this situation without the bathroom window. When the really bad tornado hit Alabama and Georgia back in April, I slept in the hallway. This wasn't unusual to me, though, because the hall was the safest place in my childhood home too; I spent many a stormy night sleeping in the hall...

  • I'm a big wuss.  I go to the basement all the time.  DH knows if there is bad weather I just get up and go.  I watch tv until it passes (finished basement).  It was my biggest requirement when we bought our house.
  • We have an interior bathroom, so I put tub.  Normally though, I put the cats in their carriers and put them all four in the tub, with blankets and pillows over them.  Then DH and I are just in the bathroom next to the tub.  I guess we have our priorities. :)  We are seriously looking into getting a shelter put in in our garage.  We've had two major tornadoes go through our neighborhood and destroy houses, so I feel like we are tempting fate by not having a shelter.
  • We don't really have tornadoes or big storms here. I guess we'd go in the hallway, as it's the only interior "room" in our little apartment.

My biggest fear is earthquakes. In which case, my answer would be outside, as fast as possible. I've only ever experienced a teeny little one, and they scare the crap out of me. At least with tornadoes you have some warning!

  • I voted God. We don't get bad weather. Our emergency would be an earthquake, so I'd go to the middle of our street or back yard. I have a large interior closet if we had a tornado...which is highly unlikely in CA.
