Cash/ATM quesiton while in Spain
We're going to Spain in April & we bank with BOA which has a million fee's for foreign transactions. :P
Our Capital One Venture card has been our best bet for exchange rates & no fee's while pre-booking stuff.
When you travel overseas do you usually use your bank/debit card to get cash or do you get a pin for your CC & get cash that way?
TIA
Re: Cash/ATM quesiton while in Spain
I always use my Cap One credit card when/where I can, and then use my debit card to get cash out if needed. I don't want to start paying interest immediately on any cash advance I take on a credit card.
Do you bank with anyone you'd recommend? We're willing to open a new checking just to not give BOA even more of our money
DH and I do this. We use his credit card for purchases and then our debit card for ATM withdrawals only. At a rate of 25% for a cash advance on a credit card, we're better off paying the fee for a regular ATM withdrawal with our debit card (which is $5 or 3%, whichever is greater, and we bank with Chase).
I've never had a cash advance so please enlighten me because I was thinking of using a card for cash (one with no foreign trx fee), too. So, do you mean that you get a fee even if you pay in full when he bill arrives?

This for us, too. We used our TD Bank card the last time we were in Europe and I don't remember any foreign transaction fees for ATM withdrawals. They gave us a pretty decent exchange rate, too.
Yes, you will. Interest starts accruing immediately on cash advances. There is no grace period at all.
