Food Freshness Question

We've swapped names for next Christmas. I have my sister and she loves Stonewall Kitchen stuff so I was thinking I could stock up on sale items through the year.

How long do you think, say, the pancake mix would last? Or bottled syrup?

Re: Food Freshness Question

  • I think you'll probably be fine if you store them in a cool, dark place.  When you're buying them, pick the ones with the farthest-out expiration date too.
  • That's what I was thinking - most packaged foods will have an expiration date, so I think if you purchase items that will be good for a roughly a year after you'll be giving them to her, in case she doesn't use them right away, you should be fine!

  • Ditto pp. Just makes sure to check dates because you don't want to give her something that will expire 2 months after she gets it.
  • Hm. I'm looking at them online. So maybe I buy them and if they are going to expire then I use them myself!!

Lol...definitely not a bad plan.  I just assume everyone else lives within walking distance of a Stonewall Kitchen and is buying in person.  If you're ordering online, you can probably give them a call and check on the shelf-life of the products you're buying.

  • I agree with pps.

And items like jams and syrups don't go bad. So they'll last forever... (although that may ruin your plan to use items yourself! LOL)

  • They are definitely having some decent sales right now :)
