Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

apparently telling your kids "Good job!" can be detrimental.

  • It can be if you tell them that all the time. I honestly don't see how it would be if you only told them that when you seriously mean it! After all kids need to be encouraged/praised.

    I agree with this. The issue isn't praising them -- it's praising them so much that the praise is meaningless.

    This.  It makes me think of watching American Idol when there are the really awful singers, and they're like "but all my friends and family say I'm great!" I mean, it's nice to be encouraging, but there's definitely a limit to it.

    On the other hand, you don't want to be like "You suck!" when it's the first time they've ever done something lol. 

  • Praise the process not the product. "you worked so hard on that math problem, I could tell you were really thinking about how to get the answer."
  • I think it makes some truly valid points, actually. That's not to say I'm going to stop saying "good job!" if Maya rolls over or something, but it'll definitley make me think twice about why I'm saying something to her.
