RE: School

Do it!! Even if it is just to talk to a counselor.

Also, try NOT to think of the failure (I have issues with this as well). If you skip a semester it's ok, if you need to re-take classes, it's OK.

If nothing else you won't have any regrets KWIM?

Exactly! You just have to try :)

FWIW, I did the bold part before and I'm glad I did because now I'm about to graduate.

  • I agree.

I dropped out of HS when I was 17. Got my GED at 18 then didn't start school until I was 22. It is scary. it is hard.

  • Goodness glaciers, I didn't expect a pep talk, but thanks girls!

I think I'm mostly nervous because it's been SO LONG since I've even touched a mathbook, and I'm going to have to take freakin' physics and stats and it all seems really overwhelming.

Do I just have to go to the campus, and find the counselor? Do I call and make an appointment? I've never seriously looked into it, so I feel lost. I have no idea where to start! I'm reading all kinds of stuff on their website, I suppose that counts as getting a foot in the door. Inhale. Exhale.

    You guys rock. :)

Is there a counselor for your field? At my university they are field-specific and you have to make an appointment online.

    You can do it!

This! If there is not a specific counselor, then there is usually an e-mail for general questions. E-mail that and say "I am interested in x, y, z. Here is what I have done as far as other schooling. I need to know where and how to start."

The general info is actually a really good stepping stone, when you lay it out like that! Good luck!!

  • Also check with the admissions office. They can be very helpful!

  • Alright I found a form and sent an e-mail asking a few questions. I put in my e-mail/phone/address so I'm hoping I'll hear back pretty soon with some answers.

I can find where minor/AS/BS/Masters in Criminal Justice is listed, but I want an emphasis on Forensic Science (both lab and field work) and while I found a course of study for that, they don't have it listed as a degree... so I'm all confused, but I'm sure they can clear that up!

My next step will be to sit down with someone, and it looks like I can schedule that online.... so. Here in the next week or so I'll ask my boss about coming into work late, and try to get an appointment set up. EEK!

  • Good luck! If your school is anything like mine, appointments are crucial. Walk-ins generally have a long wait time, but appointments are kept on schedule. How exciting!

I did this, the wait was fine for me but I'm going to a smaller campus.

    GL!!
