West Memphis 3 - the judge
I know there are a few people on this board who followed this and watched the documentaries. I finally finished the 3rd one last night and what killed me through the whole thing was the judge. I went to the WM3.org today just to read up some more.
Saw this - an "interview" w/ the judge from yesterday. Thoughts?

Re: West Memphis 3 - the judge
I mean, he's an idiot right? I grew up and went to college in that area. I know the mindset. I am the same age as them. I was suspected of being a weird kid, especially based on my BF at the time. SO, I am not shocked by his attitude about doing the right thing. Arkansas is still so ass backward.
But, he contradicts himself so much in that video. "I would have been ok with them getting a new trial but I felt they didn't need one?" huh? Then why not let them have one when you had control.
I personally wish things were different right now. The state is using the fact that they are still technically guilty to avoid putting any work into solving this case. I think a new trial would have been more beneficial for everyone, but I am still glad the guys are out.
I was thinking about them yesterday. Like, we are the same damn age. I graduated high school the day the murders occurred and went to college 45 minutes away from there, got my degree, bought a house, got married and am having my second kid. And they, through all that that I have done, have been in jail. So yeah, I am glad they are out.
But I feel those boys still deserve justice.
And yeah, it REALLY bothers me that the state isn't going to pursue who really did this. I get why the WM3 agreed to the plea- they wanted to just be out and done and not have to wait any longer. But I dont' feel that excuses the state from opening the case back up.

No, it doesn't. At least not morally.
I am wondering, since I am not a legal type, whether they could investigate and prosecute anyone else though.
One thing that I didn't get - they were granted a new evidentary hearing in Nov. 2010, but the hearing wasn't scheduled until Dec 2011. Is the legal system really THAT fricking slow???

It wouldn't shock me.
Have you read Devil's Knot?

I'm just 10% into it. It was written closer to the time of the case, so obviously there is some more current info in the documentaries. But I feel it is very factual and not emotional and gives a very good outline and timeline for everything so far. It is a lot more detailed than the docs too, obviously.
But yeah, so far I really like it.
