I've been searching (er, stalking) Craigslist for days now trying to find furniture for the baby's room. We decided we just want to do regular size bedroom furniture, and if we find something we like that also comes with a bed we will use it as a guest bed. Win win.
1. People think their used sh!t is worth so much more than it is. There are 30-year-old bedroom sets on there that are ugly as sin and people want $800 for them. Are you flippin serious? Or they're next to new and people want $2000 for them. Again, are you serious? If I wanted to spend that much I'd buy new.
2. Anytime something IS reasonably priced, its snatched up in five minutes. I emailed a person the other day about some furniture that was really pretty, and got a blind cc email that he had received over 60 replies. I wrote him back offering $100 more than he was asking if he'd let me have it and I never did hear back. I emailed about something today a mere 2 hours after it was posted and got an email back that it already sold. Grrr....
Getting rich is not the point of Craigslist people!!
Re: May I craigslist rant?
I did the same. I destroyed my furniture as a kid (stickers, glitter spray paint, the works) so we wanted something cheap for her room. I really should post pics tomorrow, her whole room cost less than $600, decorated. We did a lot of DIY and I'm a bargain shopper. Here's what we ended up with, if it helps.

Using coupon codes for the chest and dresser, we did really well.
