NYC restaurant suggestions
My DH and I are going to NYC for two days in two weeks to see Wicked and enjoy the city. What are your favorite NYC restaurants? We like Italian, Greek, and American food the best. TIA!
Re: NYC restaurant suggestions
I posted some of my favorite links here yesterday. They're where I'd start.
My favorite Italian restaurants are:
Frank or Sauce (no website yet) (very casual, cash only)
Piccolo Angolo (also casual ... family run ... make a reservation a week or two ahead of time)
Lupa (Mario Batali's mid-range Roman restaurant)
Rubirosa (also plan ahead -- make reservation on Open Table a week or two ahead)
(Note: if Italian includes pizza let me know and I'd be happy to share those recs)
For American, I love all of the Blue Ribbons, particularly the Brasserie on Sullivan Street.
Perilla, The Little Owl and Red Cat and The Harrison are also great. I love Amy Ruth's for soul food brunch (chicken and waffles!)
Most of these restaurants are very busy, so if they don't take reservations I'd unfortunately expect long waits.
I'm not a Greek expert, but if you'd like to get Greek, you'd be well-advised to head across the river to Astoria in Queens because there are a ton of great casual Greek restaurants there.
Milos in midtown west is fantastic along with Avra midtown east. Thalassa in Tribeca is also really yummy.
For Italian Scarpetta and Scalini & Fedeli more expensive but both are fantastic.
Ferrara's (a little bakery for dessert and Frozen lemonade in Little Italy) is to die for.
and Babbo's in Greenwich village is just amazing. by mario Batali

oh, and I saw on the food channel this place called Hill Country Chicken that I want to try.

I've been to Hill Country Chicken twice -- I'd skip it. It only has fried chicken and there are many places in NY with better fried chicken. And the ambiance is like a nice, clean fast food restaurant so I'd only go there if you're in the neighborhood and looking for somewhere super quick to eat. It isn't a great destination restaurant because you'll be in and out really quickly.
I do like the regular Hill Country though (which is a barbecue restaurant).
