vent/rant/irritated: paperwork for parents

are you guys stuck doing paperwork/customer service phone calls etc for your parents?

i guess i understand mine....a little. my parents english is limited, so they rely on me to do these for them...but sometimes they are JUST LAZY!

my mom has FMLA paperwork that she wants me/my OB to fill out so she can take time off work for the baby.....i've looked at it, and *she* needs to fill out like 2 pages of it of *her* info..but she hasn't, and wants me to do.

today she learned that she needs to have it turned in *before* i have the baby, and she's FREAKING OUT about it. she called me 4x's that i missed (i left my phone in the car). and left a voicemail. i listened to the vmail, so i got it...i called her back. she didn't pick up. she has now called me twice since...but i couldn't get it because i had somebody at my desk. now my mom's coworker is texting me asking me if i'm okay- YES. I'M AT WORK AND CAN"T ALWAYS ANSWER THE PHONE!

okay vent/rant/over. thanks for listening. grrr.....

  • Sometimes I do for my dad but its not that bad. He just isnt much of  people person and before my parents divorced my mom would usually make the calls but now I get to. Thankfully he has gotten better though and does a good amount of them but I still do the rest lol

  • That sounds frustrating!

I am mean, you could just tell her "yes I'm busy I just had a baby" just to freak her out. But I can be mean when hormonal. Devil

  • Ugh, that would drive me insane. It's bad enough when my DH makes me do it. (And, seriously, the man is afraid of the fax machine in his office. He'd rather spend the money/time on stamps for mailing a TON of crap than spend 30sec standing in front of the fax machine, dialing the appropriate number, and waiting for the damn thing to send.)

Also, the constant phone-calling thing? GAHHH. Sorry you have to deal with it. :(

  • I'm sorry! I know the feeling. My mom has this weird phobia of standing up to people on the phone or just dealing with what looks like an overwhelming amount of paperwork. My dad just doesn't care. So when I'm visiting, their phone will ring off the hook with telemarketers, and they just ignore it! So I've started picking up the phone and saying 'Please take me off your calling list.' and hang up. My mom said it's helped a lot but still, do it yourself!! H and I also had to nudge my dad into calling Comcast a few times for overcharging him. Weird how parents just don't want to do things for themselves sometimes. I feel your pain Jennlin!!
  • Ugh, that would be super frustrating!

  • wow! that is cool that she is trying to take work off!! lucky, we will have no one to help us.. it'll be just us two. :) well, 3, or 4 if we have twins. lol.

i could never do that though.. i guess i would.. but i don't want to!

  • Wow. I didn't realize grandparents could take advantage of this.

Also, I totally feel you. My parents regularly use me to write letters and fill out forms for them. They got their freaking phds here, they know English, but they know if I do it, it will be much faster.

Sometimes, it drives me super up the wall insane angry.

  • My step-dad has dementia, so I have to fill out ALL of his paperwork, social security, doctor's visits, taxes, everything. It can get tiring, but he really can't do it himself.. so...
