I work in a seven person office (all female except for dr) and most of us have known each other for 20+ years. Newby, who has been with us since last May, is pregnant with her second child and due May 1. It is our tradition to have a shower for pregnant employees, and she is aware of this.
Although she does not attend church, a group of her inlaws church ladies are having her a shower on March 12. Newby was told she would never have another child and there will be four years difference in age so she has nothing for this new baby. Today, on FB, I get an invitation from her for the church ladies shower, which is a 45 minute each way drive. She is not aware of date but we are having her shower March 8.
Am I wrong to feel this is asking for a gift?

If your FB friends not just coworkers, she probably was being nice and not excluding you in case you saw pictures of it or whatnot.
I would just assume the best. Does it matter anyway?
Perhaps she was thinking it would be easier to just have one shower and hoped you'd cancel the "office" shower. I think it odd that she invited coworkers that she isn't particularly close to but maybe she has few friends or considers you closer friends than you realize.
in the end it doesn't matter. It is an invite not a summons. If you don't want to go don't.
