Has anyone been? Are the frozen hot chocolates really as good as the hype? Any other dessert places you'd recommend in NYC? Thanks for the great suggestions for dinner the other day.

Just my opinion but...We were just there in December and had a regular and a mint frozen hot chocolate. The mint was better than the regular but neither one was that great and I certainly wouldn't bother going twice. I am fairly certain I could recreate the thing in my Vita Mix if I really wanted to try.
I would much rather have a douhgnut from the Doughnut Plant, a pistachio cupcake from Sugar Sweet Sunshine, or items from Bouchon Bakery. I also really enjoy rice pudding so Rice to Riches is a neat little place too.
The lines tend to be insane, and reviews are kind of mixed, so I've never been despite walking by it like 500,000 times.
For dessert, there are a lot of great gelato places (particularly Grom, L'Arte del Gelato, and Cones), Emack & Bolio has great ice cream, and Jacques Torres and Milk & Cookies Bakery have made-to-order ice cream sandwiches. There are a lot of great macaron places (for instance, Laduree) and chocolate shops (Maison du Chocolat (which has great hot chocolate), Kee's, Jacques Torres). If you like Italian-American pastries like cannoli and such, I'd recommend Rocco's.
That was a really random list, sorry!
But there are a ton of different great sweets here.
Good but not amazing. You'll need a trip to the gym because you'll sweat hot fudge by the time you get done.
DH and I prefer Shake Shack to Serendipity by far. Plus it's more cost effective. If you're on the west side, go to the one on 77th & Columbus. And as an added bonus, if you go around 9:00pm to close there is virtually no line, especially on Friday/Saturday nights (we have done this multiple times and have never had to wait and get a table).
OR you can to go Levain Bakery on 74th & Amsterdam and get (IMO) the world's best chocolate chip cookie. That bakery closes by 5:00pm every day though.
