South Beach - recommendations needed

Planning long weekend trip to South Beach at end of March.  What kind of weather can we expect?  What hotels do you recommend?  I want a hotel with a nice pool on the beach.  Any must visit places for sights, shopping, food, clubs, drinks??  We will be flying into Fort Lauderdale unfortunately so we'll have to drive to and from there.  Any recommendations anyone has are greatly appreciated!!

Re: South Beach - recommendations needed

  • I really enjoyed touring the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.  It's fun to walk around the Biltmore Hotel.  Neither of these are in South Beach, but they are nearby.

For authentic Cuban, I highly recommend Versailles in little Havana.  Tap Tap is a Hatian restaurant that is supposed to be fantastic.  Unfortunately, the last time we were in Miami they were closed for renovations.

  • DH, DD and I stayed at the Loews Miami Beach this past November and loved it. Every day, there were greeters that came around with free samples of food or drinks (smoothies, chocolates, mini bottles of water). The hotel is on the beach.

I don't know what your price limits are, but we really enjoyed Joe's Stone Crab (it's cheaper to go during lunchtime and go to their store called Joe's to go so you don't pay for a sit-down service). Two other places that were highly rated on Yelp and TripAdvisor were Cafe Charlotte and Puerto Sagua for Cuban.  We loved, loved, loved Puerto Sagua and wished we had time to get the paella.

    HTH!

  • evitawylie - thank you!  We've been to the Joe's in Vegas and I am thinking about checking out the Miami location.  I looked up both of the other places you suggested and they sound great!  Thank you!!
