Nothing better to do!

What has been your favorite (or least favorite) base to be stationed at? Why? ......aaand GO!

Re: Nothing better to do!

  • Norfolk, since both our families live in the area.

  • Favorite- where we are now. I love it.

Least- Vance. We weren't there long enough to get Integrated into the community. And it was oppressively hot there. I hated it.

  • I can't really answer this because we've been so lucky!  We were in San Diego at Miramar, then Monterey, then China (which doesn't have a base), and now back in San Diego at Pendleton. This isn't considering the time we spent in Quantico area due to TBS.  Even that area I liked a lot.

I definitely love San Diego, though.  It has everything you could want... the ocean... pretty hills, very scenic.... great shopping & restaurants, a nice downtown area...  and best of all, an affordable pilates studio!! When I have to move & leave my pilates studio I will be so sad... ha

  • We've only ever been one place, 29 Palms. Unlike most people we loved it.

  • Kadena (Okinawa) was definitely my favorite.  There was always so much to see do even though the island was small.  We took the ferries out to a bunch of the surrounding islands, flew to Tokyo twice, and climbed Mt Fuji.  I miss the good food and friendly locals.

My least favorite is my current base. I'm a positive person for the most part, but I can't make myself like this place as hard as I try.  In addition to being in the middle of nowhere, I have had horrible experiences with work and people in general here.

  • Favorite- Fort Stewart, GA. I loved being so close to Savannah, other fun places and since I'm from the south I felt more at home.

Least- Fort Bliss, TX. I hated the desert, I missed greenery and animals. Most of the drivers were terrible and it was just hot and blah.

  • Favorite - Vandenberg AFB, CA We absolutely loved the area and the weather year round. I miss it!

I really like Malmstrom too though, which is where we are now. We have been pretty lucky we have gotten places we like so far.

  • I've actually loved everywhere we've been.  H did recruiting in Syracuse, which was very close to home.

Then we were in Everett, WA.  I cried when we first got orders there since it was so far from my family, but I ended up absolutely loving it there.  I miss Seattle.

Now we are in Norfolk/VB area.  We heard mixed things about how we would like it, but so far I'm loving it.  I love our house and the area we bought in, and I love that I'm much closer to family again.

  • Fav: CP by far. Living off base and only having to go there if I needed to. :)

Least Fav: Here. I really like the locals and the culture. I absolutely love living overseas. What I dislike won't be put online. :-p

  • Currently loving Hawaii.  I don't see that changing.

I really disliked Offutt.  I'm not a midwest girl.  I also didn't really care for Kunsan, but that was short lived and not meant for families anyway, so I could just tolerate it and enjoy the moments of fun living overseas.

  • I liked Moody AFB in Georgia because it was close enough to big cities to go visit and have fun and the cost of living was decent--- lots of jobs around the area.

I LOATHE where we are now--- Guam.  Hot, humid, tiny, boring.... no jobs.... etc.
