I just have to share because I thought this was so nice...

I was just at chipotle getting some lunch.... the line was crazy long, so the lady standing next to me started chatting... I mentioned that I was fairly new to the area and was looking for restaurant recs... it morphed into where did you move from (China), why were you there (the Marines), etc etc.  In the course of the conversation I mentioned that we hadn't tried too many restaurants because my husband deployed so quickly. etc etc.

When we got to the check out to pay I heard her say "hers too" and it took a second for me to realize that she was paying for my food! I was seriously shocked! I said oh my gosh you don't have to do that, and she said she wanted to because of everything our military does and thank you for my husband's service.

It seriously brought tears to my eyes!  I didn't even catch her name.  But I've never had a random stranger do anything like that for me before.

I will definitely pay it forward.

  • What a sweet lady. People like her give me hope for humanity. I am glad that she made you feel so great. :-)

  • That is so nice. FI was injured and was at an airport and had a wounded warriors shirt on and was in a wheel chair and the guy in front of him paid for his meal too. Made me tear up
  • That is super sweet. :) I had a major buy me coffee the other day when he realized my husband was deployed. I had a very bad day (found out a friend died and had to tell H). I wonder if the powers that be just know when we just need one simple act of kindness to get through the rest of our day.

  • that's so thoughtful!  you just never know what anyone else is going through and how your small act of kindness can brighten their whole day.
  • Aw!  That's super nice!  I love when those moments happen.  When my FI was at OCS, I lived close enough to visit during days had liberty, so I'd pick up his whole fire squad and take them out.  One day we all went to a nearby vineyard for lunch, and one of the guys went to go pay for all of us as a surprise, but he was surprised to find out that the bill was already paid for, and the waiter told him the benefactor only said to tell him "Semper Fi".  These four guys got teared up and said it humbled them, and they were going to work harder the next week to earn the honor that was just given them.  All 4 of them made it through OCS and commissioned, which is impressive!  I do think that motivation helped for sure.

I'm curious to learn more about why your H was stationed in China?  I lived in Shanghai for school once-upon-a-time, and would absolutely LOVE if FI got stationed in China at some point, though it seems rather improbable.  He's a JAG, if that means anything.  Just interested in your experience!
