I had highlights and lowlights for years, but I stopped going about a year ago and my hair is natural now. It got to be too blonde and expensive. I was tired of paying for the upkeep, and another bonus is that my hair is healthier now.

How much do you typically spend? It was around $70 for cut and color before the tip.

How often do you go? Usually every 6 weeks or so. It was sometimes sooner, sometimes later.

Why did you start? It was so long ago, who knows. I think I just wanted something different and to give my stringy hair dimension.

I keep my hair short, keep that in mind.

I go every 6 weeks. I get minimal highlights every 3rd time. I drive out to a smaller town as well, which I think takes my costs down about $10.

$30 cut only

$65 cut/foil

Plus tip, of course.

When I worked in a salon, it was free. I can hi/low light my own hair but its a hassle and hurts my shoulders so I've stopped doing it.
Now I'm paying $35 cut / $75 hi-lights / $95 hi/low-lights
How often do you go?
Usually ranges from 6-8 weeks depending on if I went lighter or darker. It's currently been 8 weeks and since I got so many lows last time I think I can hold out another month.
Why did you start?
My hair color is blah. I started in high school with hi-lights and have always liked the extra dimension and body it gives me.

How much do you typically spend? I typically spent around $80 for just hair color (but I live in Hawaii, everything is much more expensive. I spent considerably less when I lived in a medium COL area)
How often do you go? I used to go every 2 months, now I often opt to have a friend dye my hair because I can't justify the cost with how little my appearance matters in my job)
Why did you start? I have awful brownish-greyish hair, and started dyeing it blonder and blonder when I was about 16. Then, I dyed it dark on a whim and found I liked it, so I keep dyeing it because I hate my natural color. It does not suit my personality at all, and I truly enjoy changing my color up (I've been everywhere from blonde, to redhead, to blue-black).

How often do you go? Every 8-12 weeks or so. I need to go sooner, but it's just too expensive.

Why did you start? I started coloring my hair when I was 12. My mom always colored hers so I wanted to also. Once you start it's hard to stop. I went dark (my natural color) for awhile, but I think it aged me. I look better blonde.
