Re: s/o jean nate, PIPs

  • My grandmother was a bltch.  She kept anger, bitterness and resentment in her purse.

  • A supply of quarters, for the bus.
    Look with your special eyes.
  • I have no idea, but my guess is a lipstick, mirror and a rain bonnet (her termonology) like the one Broc has pictured. Oh, and a few quarters in her change purse in case she needed to make a phone call at a pay phone.

  • The Werthers were always in my grandfather's pocket.

And they were so old that they were completely soft all the way through.

  • My grandma never carried a purse, but she always had a tissue in her bra strap. She had an eye that would water non-stop and she was always dabbing at it.

  • My other grandfather always gave us these:

My grandmother was famous for these:

  • My favorite story is when my grandma's cat caught a mouse, killed it and put it in her purse. Oh, the hilarity.

OMG, and when you would bite into one of them - the horror slowly dawning on your face as you bit through more and more of the soft part...

    Look with your special eyes.
  • The werther's were fresh in my world... it was these b*tches you had to watch out for.

Omg. Yes. But those were the orange slice grandfather's weapon of choice.

Gault, I knew what I was in for from years of experience, but my younger self was too polite ever to refuse.

  • My great grandma always had pillow mints in her apron pocket (she always wore an apron even when she wasn't in the kitchen).  They were always fresh from what I can remember.  I was pretty young when she died.

    They are sesame seed candies.

  • I guess she didn't carry these in her purse, but they were definitely a fixture in my grandparent's home, in a candy dish .image

  • Chocolate covered cherries...and a bottle of whiskey.

My grandma kept those in her room.

And the "old lady" dollars that she carried around in a changepurse.

  • This post will give me nightmares.

AFM, Grandma (1) only had her checkbook in her purse, to make out checks to Republican candidates and/or causes.

Grandma (2) I don't remember what was in her purse, but I do remember her driving 75mph down I-5 in the fast lane the whole way from LA to San Diego in her white Lincoln on our way to Sea World. This was back when the speed limit was still 55.

She smoked a pack a day from when she was 13 until she died at 84. Blech.
