Government speak, and a little vent

I really hate how government agencies use the most complicated manner to say something simple... I received a letter from the IRS, and it makes you say huh? You read it and have no idea what the letter is really getting at. I read it to my mom & dad and it stumped them, too.  Oh well, going to put it into the tax file and hope H&R Block know what it means, ha.

Then I received a letter from the Dept of Veterans Affairs.  Well, 2 letters, which to me seemed to be saying one thing... then I received another letter yesterday which says the complete opposite of what I thought the first 2 said.

Anyway.

My vent is about the the letter from the VA that I received yesterday - they are telling me I owe them $2000!  The story is that I was receiving my husband's GI bill for school.  I started school in August, I paid my tuition 100% out of my own pocket because the GI bill business was going to take awhile to get started. A couple months later I withdrew from the program and the university refunded me the prorated tuition (which is what they do).  Now I am getting a letter from the VA saying I owe them $2000... however, I never received a dime from them so I definitely don't owe them squat. I have a feeling the school messed something up, or the school & the VA aren't communicating. But the VA is impossible to get ahold of so this is going to be interesting (read: a huge pain) to resolve.

Oh my goodness I am so sorry your going through this. I remember that you and my H were starting school around the same time and both having a rough time with getting the VA stuff all figured out. E's got figured out but it took forever and many many phone calls. I hope your able to get a hold of someone soon and that they are able to fix all this for you.

  • Aw thanks!  I am glad your husband's is all set.  I had received a letter that they had approved everything the week I decided to withdraw, so I KNEW that something like this was going to happen and they would get all confused.... Anyway, I emailed them, and I left a message at the school, and I guess tomorrow I will try to call them... they are so impossible though!
