Disney Cruise

We are thinking of taking our son in a few years when he is 5.

We live near Galveston and they are departing this fall from the port.

Thoughts? I was looking at departing from Florida as it gives us more options to visit.

Is a 4 day cruise too much for a late toddler or 5 year old?

I have not done a cruise but for me the longer a vacation the more settled they get so longer is better

  • we just got back from a 4 night Disney cruise (on the Dream) with our 7 y/o nephew and nieces, 5 y/o and 18 mos. I didn't think it was too much, but of course, they didn't stay in our cabin, and we were only around them for the day. There are a ton of activities on the ship and on Castaway Cay that our nephew and nieces were constantly entertained. Disney also made it really easy to get on/off the boat as needed to change, nap times, food, etc. I would definitely do it.
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
  • We took our DDs on a Disney cruise when they were 4 (her birthday was actually embarkation day!) and almost 7.  Four nights was perfect, IMO...long enough to do things and have fun, not so long that we got on each other's nerves being in the same cabin, being off our regular schedule, etc.

I would do a longer cruise next time, but 1) we've had one experience and know better what to expect, and 2) they'll be older (at least 6 and 9, but probably more like 7 and 10) before it happens.

We took a just turned 5 yr old on a 3 night cruise a few months ago.  She LOVED it.  We were on the dream.  If you are going to fly or drive, and leave out of FL - I would not do a 3 or 4 night.  Its a hassel to pack, travel, get on/off boat, etc for a 3-4 night cruise IMO.  If you go out of Gavelston - then it wouldnt be as bad just doing the 4 night one.

we live about 40 min from Cape Canaveral, the 3 night onewas still short but it was nice to just get away for a few days and make sure she would enjoy it (ie, not be misserable sea sick or something).  But it goes so quickly, it doesn't really feel like a vacation.  We have a 7 night one booked for later this year.
