LPN's & RN's..

Hi! Newbie here! I'm thinking about trying to go to a community college 1 or 2 year program for LPN or RN. What are some of the biggest differences "duty" wise between these two paths? I'm leaning toward the RN, but time wise the LPN is more appealing.

Re: LPN's & RN's..

  • Welcome!

Good question.  You may want to start by researching your local area.  In my area, there are next to no positions for LPN's other than nursing homes to pass meds and these jobs do not pay well.

All of the hospital systems in my region have elim. the LPN positions because it was much less expensive to hire RN's.

We receive STACKS of RN resumes a week (we do not have any open positions) but if they do not have a B.S. RN we do not even hold on to their resume.

I am sure this varies by region, but please do the research first.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks so much. There is no way I'm going for a BSN. I really just want to get an RN AAS. I'm hoping it's a little more realistic out here. lol
  • I graduated with an RN AAS in December. LPNs in my area only exist in nursing homes, with no hospital system hiring them. Most people in my class are now applying for RN to BSN programs (1 year online), and only two people have found a job, one who went LPN to RN at the nursing home she works at and someone else in dialysis (generally not desirable). One of the two major healthcare systems in the area just stopped accepting non-BSN applications. It's tough out there.

  • Thanks for the input! Will you be doing a RN to BSN as well?

This is my experiece here at well. Unless you know someone or have some kick-buttt referrals and experience or for many of my friends who work in a medical office in another capacity and are getting their RN and will get a promotion.

  • I recommend going for your LPN, its quicker than the RN. You can get into clinicals faster and see if nursing is really for you. Many people find that nursing is not for them once they get into clinicals, and  at that point in an ADN program most students feel like they are stuck in the nursing profession bc they've invested so much time. Nursing is not a job, it IS a calling. You need compassion, empathy, interpersonal skills, a strong stomach, a desire for knowledge, and a very strong set of ethics. You see people at some of the lowest, most difficult points in their life. They look to you for comfort.

Then you can work as an LPN while taking a bridge program (offered through MANY community colleges and the online school excelsior) to get your ADN. From there (if you want) you can go for your BSN. Depending on the area you live in, wages for the LPN/LVN vary. You can look up the average salary in your area at the link below.

You can also look up salaries for RNs and other professions on there. I found this very helpful when I was interviewing and the inevitable question of desired pay came up. I can't tell you what is right for you, I can only give you a little insight into the industry. Best of luck to you whichever path you choose.

No, because the Lakers admiral accept a history of authoritative astute abstract picks and trades, abrogation the aggregation in position to balance bound from setbacks.

Look at the Clippers? abstract history: In 1981, they drafted Tom Chambers, who went on to accept a solid career ? with Seattle and Phoenix. Afterwards he averaged 17.4 credibility for the Clippers, they traded him to the SuperSonics for James Donaldson, Greg Kelser and Mark Radford. To be fair, the Clippers did abstract a approaching Hall of Famer in 1981: Tony Gwynn, who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1983, the Clippers called Byron Scott, again traded him to the Lakers. In 1984, they called Lancaster Gordon with the eighth all-embracing aces of the draft. Lancaster Gordon? Nike jordans shoes sales Meanwhile, eight picks later, the Utah Jazz called John Stockton. (By the way, that year the Lakers called A.C. Green with the 23rd pick.)
