PSA: Be Prepared

So what I've learned at this experience of having my purse stolen:

1. Have a separate form of LEGAL ID kept somewhere in your house (like your passport).

2. Have some extra cash, checks and if possible, a spare credit card somewhere in the house so you have access to money for things (having a spare checkbook allows me to still get groceries, pay the insurance claim on my phone, etc when the banks are closed).

3. Keep a spare car key in the house.

4. Dont let your purse out of your sight, even when you think you should be able to trust it. I was at church of all places.

5. Don't keep your Social Security card in your purse or in your car. (mine was in my house, so glad I dont have to mess with THAT.

Re: PSA: Be Prepared

  • I read this before the B&M post below but I can assume what is in it.... That is awful :-( hope everything gets taken care of quickly.

  • I had my purse stolen senior year of college during a stadium cleanup event for my honor fraternity, and it was by far one of the worst experiences of my life. I, like you never kept my ss card in my purse, in fact I think it was still at my parents' house in the file cabinet, and I had my passport and spare keys at my apt. Still, I felt so violated and vulnerable, especially since someone now had my apt keys and could look up my address on the student directory if they wanted to. It freaked me out. Sorry it happened to you! :(
