Dumb "will this make it through security?" question

A metal cookie tin, like this:

It is metal so theoretically I could file it down to a shiv.

Yay?  Nay?

Re: Dumb "will this make it through security?" question

  • I don't see why it wouldn't as long as there is nothing with liquid/jelly type filling in them.

  • Since when are you not allowed to take something metal through security?

And is your flight so long that you'd have time to file it down?

This flight is long enough to turn coal into diamond.

Looks like I'm good to go then.  Thanks!

  • I took a Cephalon omlette pan as carry on a couple of years ago with no problem. You should not have a problem. You may have to open it for them that would be it.

  • I'd be more worried about getting it through the insane customs checks on the other side! But considering the customs inspector who assessed our "brown cheese" situation was actually Danish, you probably have a good shot. ...Or maybe not. She let the brunost go saying, "Oh god no! I don't want it!" but just like Smash! commercial, she might have needed to sample the butter cookies. ;)

  • We almost always bring metal tins of shortbread back to the states with us. Never been a problem.
