Parenting Classes - Will this look bad on me?

STBX's lawyer responded to an emergency support request from my lawyer (she denied it) and attached a certificate that my STBX completed his parenting classes required by the courts (both of us need to take the classes).  It was like saying, "He's not going to provide support, but he's still a good dad, SEE!"

We are going to court on Feb. 28th, is it going to look bad that I haven't completed my parenting classes yet, and STBX has?  I'm looking at classes right now to see when I can take them.  I'd like to do it ASAP, and will take off work if I need to.  I'm really worried this will look bad on me.

  • If it were me I would try to have them completed by the court date.

  • Yes it will look bad for you.
  • Yes, it will look bad. Here, the courses must be completed or the divorce will not be granted; you don't want to have anything delay this.

  • It depends. If you were both charged with this in the last month and he's completed it while you still have a a few sessions scheduled, it's not a big deal.

If it's been longer than a month, he's done and you are just now looking, it doesn't speak well of you as a co-parent willing to do what is required to raise your children collaboratively.

  • It will look bad if you haven't even started them.  Really there's no excuse if you were given this request at the same time and he's able to fully complete it and you're still just looking into classes right now? Get going to them now!
