Does anyone know if airlines still issue open-ended tickets?

My uncle was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As soon as my cousin can get things squared away with work and his passport, he plans on flying to the Philippines to be with his family. I can't find any info on open ended tickets online, but does anyone know if airlines still do this?
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.

  • I think this will be hard to find for a reasonable price.

He could just purchase a one-way and then buy a return when you have the information to do so?  Or, if he really wants to have a return ticket booked then he should select an airline that has a low change fee.

    HTH!

  • How long would it be until his return? If it will likely be less than a year, just buy a round-trip ticket with a flexible fare that allows free (or affordable) changes. Book the return part for whenever (usually whenever happens to be cheapest). After he flies the outbound trip, call and cancel the return. Most airlines will let you rebook the return flight within 12 months for whatever change fees apply.

I've only done this domestically though, so I'm not sure what kind of fare increases or change fees you'd be looking at for flexible international tickets.
