Need some travel help/tips
This may be a dumb question so I apologize.
DH and I have to travel to our Fertility Clinic in Syracuse, NY. to do a frozen embryo transfer.
We're starting to look at costs so we can start budgeting for it. A large chunk will be flying from the south up there and the 3 night 4 day stay at a hotel.
Any tips or advice on how to cut the expenses? We usually look at Expedia/Price Line/etc. but I was wondering if there were any other sites or things I can use/do to lower the cost.
One complication is that we don't know our travel date until the week before due to having to wait for certain test results so it's fairly last minute.

Re: Need some travel help/tips
You may be able to score some last-minute hotel deals, and once you have the dates, try the blind deals on Priceline/Hotwire again, since some hotels may be trying to fill unbooked rooms.
As for the airfare, if you don't the dates until the last minute, you'll probably be looking at quite a steep ticket price. Maybe you could find a last-minute travel deal to NYC and then drive the rest?
i would second driving. because syracuse is not a big hub, last minute flights there will be very, very expensive. and you'll need to rent a car once there anyway.
for hotels, hotwire and priceline are probably your best bet. ditto if you need to rent a car. maybe look into vrbo.com for an apartment?
i went to college there, let me know if you need any restaurant recs.
It would be a 18-20 hr drive so that would add time to the trip and use up more of DH's limited time off. And we'd be away from DD for an extra day ;-(
DH would have to do all the driving back which he's not crazy about but we'll look into it more.
The flying to new york and driving to Syracuse might not be a bad idea!
but it may be far more economical than getting a last minute ticket. it's not a short drive from NYC up to syracuse. you can also see if you can fly into buffalo or albany and drive from either. being away from DD for an extra day might be worth it (and not the end of the world
good luck!!
