Why must I be the UTI Queen?
Every time I start sleeping with someone new, I get UTI. It's been like that ever since I first started having sex. I've spent ridiculous amounts of money on doctor bills and antibiotics. And here I go again, trying to avoid going to Urgent Care today. Anybody have any witch doctor home remedies to keep me out of the doctor's office today?
Re: Why must I be the UTI Queen?
Simple things really helped me with my recurrent UTI issues (I've been hospitalized quite a few times in the past for them):
1) It's not particularly sexy after sex to jump out of bed and go to the bathroom, but definitely do it. You don't need to to it immediately, but w/in 5 minutes or so is best. It can help flush out any bacteria that may have been forced into your urethra due to friction.
2) Drink cranberry juice. And not that sugary crap by ocean spray. A shot or two of REAL cranberry juice (it's harsh, i know) goes a long way in clearing up a UTI. I'd also recommend you start taking cranberry supplements even when you don't have an infection to prevent them. I forget what the chemical composition of cranberry is that makes it do this, but, in essence, it makes the walls of your urinary track more "slick" so that bacteria can't stick there and multiply.
Sorry you're going through this - I know they can suck.

Ugh, that stuff didn't work for me at all! It can also mess with the tests that doctors use to detect UTIs, FYI.
OP, go to the bathroom right after sex, and drink lots of water and cranberry juice.
Well there you go, either start peeing after sex or stop having sex! Feel better soon!
Ditto MCC. Peeing after sex makes the single biggest difference in whether I get a UTI or not. It's important.
i have had this problem my whole life too!!
one doctor prescribed me a mild medication that i could take after sex to help kill the bacteria.
it seemed to help!
also, lots and lots of lubricant!! i realized (only recently) that it seems i would always get a uti if i let it go too long without lubricant once i realized we needed some more!
it sucks to have to stop and reapply, but if it prevents the uti's, its SOOO worth it!
good luck to u! i feel your pain!!!
Not to sound like a mom on you, but if you have a UTI than you have an infection. Taking OTC Azo pills will only numb your bladder from the pain, but will not cure the infection. You really need antibiotics to clear up an infection.
Also the sugar in cranberry juice works against you, so unless you're drinking 100% cranberry juice with no sugar added, you're probably not doing yourself any favors.
I'm notorious for never finishing antibiotics, so luckily I had a few left over from last time to get me started till I can hit the dr again.
Guess there will be no V-Day lovin' for me! :-(
