Someone asked this question a couple months ago and I thought it was crazy that they were having tooth pain after a filling. I've never experienced that, until now.
My tooth still hurts about 4 weeks after I had a filling that had cracked, replaced.
I did a follow up at the dentist last week and they did another x-ray and they said it looks fine. They also checked my bite and it was good.
They told me that because it was a deep filling that it could take 6-8 months for the pain to go away.
They gave me a tube of calcium like fortifier that I place on my tooth nightly before I put in my aligners (Invisalign trays).
The pain I get from drinking/eating something cold is probably a 8 out of 10. Cross eyes type pain. I still can't eat anything that is hard because it "zaps" my tooth with pain. Soft foods don't bother it.
Right now, my tooth is hurting. It's a zinging feeling and it's on a scale of 5 out of 10.
Do you have experience with deep fillings? Is this normal? Time for a second opinion?
Re: pain after tooth filling -- how long?
I had an onlay, which is like a baby crown, done in June. I had pain with drinking and eating for about 6 months. Some weeks it was better than others and certain things made it worse than other. But it did finally go away right after Christmas time. I did notice that then I went to the dentist last and she poked near it it still hurt but I think that will be normal for a while.
I would say if it gets progressively worst I would let your dentist know.
I'm starting to worry that this is what happened.
I've put in a call to my current dentist to ask, again, if I should be soon. I told the receptionist that if I need a root canal I want to get it over with than to be in pain for weeks and weeks to find out that I do indeed need one.
They told me I can apply the MI Paste Plus stuff several times a day to help infuse the tooth with the calcium phosphate and something else about tubuals.
