Online dating question(s)

In the FFFC post I mentioned I signed up for OKC. I was bored and so I figured what's the worst that could happen...get a few crazy dating stories to share later? =)

Anyway, I filled out some of it, but I have no clue what to put in the self-summary part or the what I'm doing with my life part. What types of things did you guys include? I have interests of course, but all I can think of is work work work and that is soooo boring especially since I've been trying so much to focus on saving money. Do you put things you are interested in but not currently doing (such as live music, traveling etc)?

And for another question - or rather a statement...there are a lot of douchey looking people on there! lol Do you also find that to be the case? I've noticed several of the guys that have looked at my page are only at like a 25% match and I've actually gotten a couple of messages from said people...This may turn out to be a huge source of entertainment for me!

Re: Online dating question(s)

  • Yeah I generally put in things that I like to do or would like to do with a partner. Obviously since I'm single it would be weird to go to concerts, wine tastings, and weekend road trips alone.  Ok, well not too weird but you get what I mean.  I also put things that I do alone (spinning, running, instrument playing--if I played one, etc) but mostly things that I'm interested in.

  • As with any site, you'll have to filter extensively.  But, that's no different than real life.  I've been hit on by creeps at bars, so it stands to reason that it will happen online too.

I made my OKC profile very tongue-in-cheek.  Humor stands out there more than the other sites.  My Match profile was the one that was more "serious online dater".  I had success in both places.

    This is my siggy.
  • If you want to put some things that you are interested in doing but don't currently do, I would just say that... like "I enjoy traveling and have visited x place, x place & x place in the past but haven't traveled much lately.  Looking for a new travel companion!"  or something like that.  I don't really go out much myself but I include the things I normally do on the weekends like going to the park with my son to feed the ducks.  There have to be some things that you like to do other than work.  Plus if you focus on the more mundane things it actually makes you stand apart.  95% of online profiles people say they like to travel!  (Yes, I made up that stat)

To speak specifically to OKC, I have found that is the bottom dwellers of the online dating world.  I have only met 3 guys from there and have since deleted my profile.  They were all insane.  I've had more luck on POF.  There are crazies on there as well but there are definitely normal guys too.

  • Thanks ladies! Your info definitely will help. And, I'm really looking at this as practice getting out there since I've never really dated...ever. I was always the serial long-term relationship person which is probably why I'm where I am today. So I am trying to give the whole casual dating life a try and see how it goes.
