where is it placed? I have one in DD's room and DH is concerned about putting it on the floor and said the moisture from it would mildew/mold the carpet. I used to keep it on her dresser, but it messed up the finish on it too. I tried placing it on a little plastic stool instead, but it still got the carpet near it pretty damp.

The one that is in DD's room is on one of those cheap round tables next to her crib. The table has a receiving blanket draped over it so the wood doesn't get damaged as quickly. She had a cool mist humidifier that put off a mist that if too close to the crib would leave droplets. I dropped the container filling it up one night,which broke, so we put our warm mist humidifier in her room and the mist isn't so dampening.

on a dresser with a towel underneath. you actually don't want it on the floor, it isnt as effective. I think it needs to be at least like two feet off the floor.

We have DS's on top of a small bookshelf in his room (it's like 3-4ft off the ground). I put a towel under it. I haven't noticed any damp carpet/walls, etc.
