Have you used Priceline?
To book your room? I am nervous about not knowing what hotel I am getting when I go thru name your own price. I am looking at the Washington DC area, we got a room at the Eldon Luxury Suites last year for 129.. a night, ... It's only a 2 1/2 star hotel but was really nice! But Priceline doesn't have that particular hotel available on the dates I need. Anyone use the name your own price and been disappointed?

This, example winning bids, and information on bidding strategy. If you have more constraints, you may want to check out the DC area deals at travelzoo.com. You may be able to get a good deal for a specific hotel of your choosing.
If I'm worried, I'll usually use the blind Hotwire deals along with the betterbidding.com lists, so that I'm 90% sure that I know what hotel I'm booking.
Even when I'm using Priceline, I'll cross-reference the list with TripAdvisor to get reviews of the hotel options, so that I know I won't be disappointed with whatever I end up with. Only if I'm okay with all of the options in a given area & star combination will I bid for that combination.
