Help with trip ideas

3 couples

From PDX, Boulder and Columbus, OH

July 2012 (over 4th of July weekend and can go through the week 4-5ish days)

Options that have come up: Vegas, Breckenridge, Napa

We'd like to use a vacation rental with 3 beds, 3 baths and a mix of relaxation and activities.  DH and I are not into camping, we'd like to stay at a more modern hotel/house.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Re: Help with trip ideas

  • do you have a budget in mind? have youcheced out homeaway.com or vrbo.com?

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Ideally <$300 per couple per night. We've checked homeaway, vrbo and airbnb.

I really don't want to fly somewhere then have to drive 2 hours to get to our destination.

  • then I would not recommend Breckenridge.  While I love the town in the summer there is much less to do vs. Napa/San Fran and Vegas.  it's pretty much the complete opposite of Vegas.  great hiking and biking and food.  BUT - it is almost a 2 hour drive from the Denver airport.

I haven't been in the winter (and obviously you're from the area), but I went to Breck last summer and had a blast.  However, it was a decent drive from the airport, and on top of that, a lot of driving in the car on a daily basis to go to different places (we stayed in Dillon, but went to Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Frisco, etc).  We mainly hiked, ate, and shopped

  • hz- did you stay at a hotel or rental?

That 2 hour drive sounds brutal and I really just hate being in a car. I think the 2 other couples are rooting for Breckenridge though... It's about the company, right?

We stayed in a timeshare of a friends; but if you're there for a few days; at least you just have to make the 2hr drive twice. It's not all that bad!

  • I just wanted to say Hi Bula!  Ever since you cancelled your FB I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever!  Hope you're doing well : )
