Knitters - can you id this stitch for me?

So I'm trying to imitate something like this wrap for a photographer friend: http://jococouture.bigcartel.com/product/blanket-wrap

But I'm not sure what the best way to do it is.  A ribbed square?  Straight stockinette stitch?  Any help?  Thanks!

Re: Knitters - can you id this stitch for me?

  • I'd maybe do a 1x1 rib with a needle size 2 or 3 larger than the yarn calls for.  This should make it extra stretchy- which it looks like you are going for.

  • In the second picture (the blue one), it looks like stockinette stitch in a something like Mohair (here).
  • I don't think that is ribbed - I think it is definitely stockinette done in the round on larger needles.  I am actually knitting something currently with similar yarn and I would recommend a size 9 needle based on the size of the stitches.
  • Thanks for the suggestions!  I had convinced myself this afternoon that it was just garter, but now I'm not so sure.  I'm torn between garter and stockinette.  I have a silk/mohair blend yarn that the friend bought and I currently have cast on 120 stitches on a size 9 needle.

  • I agree with PPs--I think that's stockinette in a really really big gauge.  Definitely not a garter or a rib.
