What's the cheapest way/time to plan a cruise?
We'd love to do a Disney cruise and I'm aiming for sometime 2014 which feels like forever from now. We have a family of 5 so I need to cut some corners. How far in advance, what time of year (I'd prefer not over summer vacation or around Spring break) to get the best deal? Do we call the cruise line, use an agent, go through a place like Sams? TIA.
Re: What's the cheapest way/time to plan a cruise?
I would say the fall for a Disney Cruise, but I have never taken that cruise before. I say that due to hurricane season, so it might not be the most ideal, but it'll be the cheapest. Since you have a lot of time before your trip, I would recommend watching the trends of the next few years and see what the prices are during the different seasons and when the prices rise and fall. I know with tools like Yapta, it'll track flights for you and alert you when prices have fallen (not sure if it does it for cruises yet though).
I would say to visit a travel agent to see what they can do for you, but I would recommend having a general idea of what flights and cruises are currently going at so you have an idea of how much you'd save. We went to AAA's travel agency to book our cruise there, and I did better on my own, so it's better to have an cost guideline before you go. I ended up booking our cruise through my credit card company because I got cash back for booking through them. I would price it through different places to see what works best for you and your family. I would also recommend signing up for travelzoo, if you haven't already, so you'll be alerted if there's a really great deal.
