as an ear infection clears?

Coop is about 5 days into his antibiotics for his ear. His cough seems wetter today, and maybe a little deeper. It is still only sporadic. He hasn't had a fever. His breathing is normal. Also he is like, itching his ears and around them this morning. Doctors Sissy and BIL said most likely as the infection clears, the junk is draining from his ears making his cough sticky sounding and making his ears feel funny. Anyone have this type of thing happen as an ear infection cleared for a kiddo? I hope he really is getting better. On top of it all, I really wonder if he is getting a new tooth - he has been displaying all the classic Coop teething signs too. Then again, it could all be his ears. either way he is Mr Sensitivo with a big dose of somebody-always-has-to-hold-me, and although he is sleeping fine once he gets to sleep, getting there can take a while right now. I feel awful for him, I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can so he feels as comfy as possible. I hatreds to think of him suffering because of something I did or didn't do, or notice.

Re: as an ear infection clears?

  • D's had about 15 ear infections, and the only time he is bugged by his ears is when the antibiotic isn't working.  I would probably push to have an ear check with a nurse just to make sure it's drainage and NOT a recurrence.  D gets drainage during colds and bad infections -- it's hard to tell when it's innocuous and when it's not now that he has tubes.

Since he's so clingy and it's hard for him to get to sleep, I wouldn't be so quick to blame the teeth.  (But then again, I'm so jaded by ear infections that I am on the extreme and always think a check is worthwhile)

  • Well everything else went to crap too, cough got worse, crabby clinging got worse, lack of sleep.... so off we went to the doctor this a.m. Good news is his ears really are clearing nicely. Not so good news is that he has anouther virus that is going around that isn't any fun either, in its own sucky way. Boo.
